Over the past 3.5 weeks our Chacoan peccary herd doubled with the births of 4 peclets!
Newborn peccaries are precocial, meaning they are born fully developed. Their eyes are open, & they can run around shortly after birth. They "frisky-hop" (run & leap in quick bursts) around the adult peccaries as the herd moves through their habitat. 🥰
Chacoan peccaries are classified as Endangered by the IUCN, mainly due to habitat loss & fragmentation with a decreasing population of about 3000 in the wild.
Chacoan peclets might just be the cutest babies ever, but they grow up fast! In six months, they'll look like small adults.

Our 20.5 year old geriatric jaguar Beliza has been behaving like she's a 13 year old youngster again! From running with her keeper to climbing & jumping to giving her enrichment items a full daily tour of her habitat, Beliza feels young at heart.

Fitting a round peg into a rectangular hole requires spatial reasoning that jaguar Beliza sometimes lacks. But after 20 years of Beliza toting barrels around, we knew that she would ✨️shine✨ ️....eventually.
