Open-air Meditation Sanctuary

Call Directions Website

Open-air Meditation Sanctuary The sanctuary is intended for walking, contemplation, play, sacred gatherings, ceremonies and advancing our evolutionary possibilities.

The Open-Air Meditation Sanctuary, also known as OM Sanctuary or OMS, is in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. This 10-acre wilderness park features 14 meditation areas connected by walking trails. The OMS is a service project of the Center For Soulful Living, a small intentional community. We think of the OM Sanctuary as our baby. We conceived it, gave birth to it and now we are nurturing and helping it to grow and expand in its expressions of service. It seems appropriate to consider the Sanctuary as a life, a body of vital energy with a Soul and a mission, different in form, but not completely unlike any other singular living being like an animal or a person. You too can be part of making this a more sacred and serving space with your meditations, prayers and positive reflections when on the Sanctuary grounds or by helping with time or money as well.

Today is the Waxing Crescent Moon and the first day of the Virgo solar transit, so I went into the OM Sanctuary to meditate, curious to see who would show up to practice with me.

Site 4 sits beneath the trees in a place where the sanctuary opens up to the sky. It has become one of my favorite places to practice because there is enough room to move, stretch, balance, and lie down without having to negotiate with a rock or a tree root every few minutes. Gaia is beautiful, but she has never been particularly interested in providing a level floor.

The sky was completely clear today, 85 degrees with a mild breeze. There were so many fallen oak leaves on the deck that it had to be swept first. How fun. Fall is here.

Ta**ra Yoga follows the solar transit through the constellations, so today we practiced the Dancer to Half Moon series in alignment with Virgo. Then we entered meditation with Tripura Sundari, the Ta***ic Dakini associated with Virgo.

Tripura Sundari, also known as She Who Is Beautiful in the Three Worlds, refreshes our power to reinvent ourselves. To perfect ourselves through the conscious union of Spirit and Matter, so that we may consciously embody Spirit. Embodied Presence.

There is something wonderfully energizing about her.

We moved slowly through the balancing postures, finding the precise alignments that allow the body to do them with both grace and power. Virgo seems to understand something about this: that beauty is not always about adding something. Sometimes it is about finding the alignment that allows what is already there to function beautifully.

Then we became still, meditating on Sundari with her Mudras.
By the time we finished, we both felt strong, clear, and refreshed.

If you’d like to practice Ta**ra Yoga with me at the OM Sanctuary, you’re welcome to join us. You can get in touch with me, or simply show up at Site 4 at 9:30 AM on Thursday, September 24, October 1, or October 8.

Come practice with the living sky, the Earth beneath us, and whatever happens to show up.

Today is the New Moon in Leo, and Hope and I went into the OM Sanctuary to meditate.

Site 4 is a raised platform tucked into the sanctuary, with a wide-open view of the trees and sky. It is also the perfect place for yoga when you want a flat surface, which is a surprisingly useful thing to have when most of the sanctuary is composed of rocks, roots, slopes, and the general unruliness of Gaia.

The sky was completely clouded over today. What a relief! After so many scorching, dry, cloudless days, the soft gray sky felt like a blessing. The light was muted, the air quieter, and everything seemed to be resting beneath that great blanket of cloud.

Ta**ra yoga follows the solar transit through the constellations, so today we practiced the Warrior series in alignment with Leo and then entered meditation with Bhairavi, the Ta***ic Dakini associated with Leo.

Bhairavi is about fearlessness. She does not turn away from what frightens her. She looks directly at it. The demons of fear are drawn toward her because she is willing to meet them face to face, and in that fierce gaze, they are annihilated.

There is something wonderfully uncompromising about her. No negotiation with fear. No pretending it isn't there. No need to make friends with every demon that wanders into consciousness.

Just look. Stay present. And let the false thing fall apart.

We moved through the Warrior postures slowly, feeling the strength in our bodies and the steadiness of our feet beneath us. Then we became still. By the time we finished, we both felt strong, clear, and refreshed.

Get in touch if you’d like to do Ta**ra Yoga with me at OMS.

These soft late-autumn days are perfect for long, meandering walks through the OM Sanctuary. The air is crisp, the light is golden, and my wonderful groundskeeping crew has been keeping the pathways clear of fallen leaves—safe, open, and ready for your quiet wandering.

One of the sanctuary benches, once weather-worn and leaning, has now been lovingly restored. Its new coat of deep cranberry red seems to glow against the natural landscape. Come find it on your walk. Sit for a while. Let the woods breathe with you, and listen for the way nature speaks when we finally become still.

Stroll the path
And follow the thread
Till you spot
The bench of cranberry red.
OM Sanctuary.

Sanctuary Notes: The Magic Wand

Trick Here’s a little trail wisdom I’ve picked up from many morning walks:

Before you set off on the sanctuary trail, find yourself a little stick. Not too big—just something to wave gently in front of you.

Why?
Spiderwebs. Beautiful, yes. But surprising when they land across your face.

I carry my little stick like a wand—part spiderweb-detector, part magical staff. Each sweep feels like parting invisible veils, opening a portal to stillness and presence. It makes me laugh and feel like a forest wizard.

These cooler mornings are perfect for walking barefoot, letting the earth awaken your senses. Late summer blooms are at their peak—morning glories twisting skyward and sunflowers, small and large, nodding in golden delight.

For a gentler pause, check out our new meditation bench at the pond. It’s easy to access, perfect for a few moments of quiet reflection without doing the whole trail. And if you’re inspired, try a little nature yoga along the way—like Tom striking a balancing pose on a rock, hand braced against a tree—letting the sanctuary itself guide your movement.

Try it sometime—you might just discover a little extra magic in your steps.

Sanctuary Notes: Out of the Box, Into the Wild

So many healers, teachers, and self-care guides are waking up to something ancient and true: healing is amplified outdoors.

Not in a box.
Not under fluorescent lights.
Not wrapped in walls of electricity and EMF.

But beneath the trees.
With bare feet on earth.
Breathing wild air.

The OM Sanctuary offers a one-mile walking trail and 14 meditation sites—some tucked away for privacy, others open and expansive. It's a sacred space designed for deep presence, reflection, and gentle transformation.

If you’re a yoga teacher, a breathwork or meditation guide, a grief doula, a circle keeper, or simply someone who holds space for others—consider bringing your work outside.

The land holds it beautifully.
And your clients will feel it.

Meeting clients at the sanctuary is simple and seamless.
Just a 10-minute drive from the heart of Eureka Springs, the trailhead and parking area are easy to find—and from there, you're immediately immersed in the peace of OMS.

Whether you want to walk the full one-mile loop or head to a particular secluded spot, maps are available to help you navigate.

Donations appreciated.

Sanctuary Notes: Morning Light

This morning, I walked the OM Sanctuary trail as the light filtered through the heart-shaped dogwood leaves, turning them almost translucent. Mornings are the best! A soft breeze moved through the trees, making the hot summer morning pleasant. The trail is being kept so nice by my new groundskeepers making the walk extra enjoyable. Wildflowers are abundant in the Sanctuary. The black-eyed Susans bright and open, luminous Rose of Sharon, wild petunias scattered like violet whispers, eye catching red shelf mushrooms, Purple plumes of Missouri Ironweed, Leopard Lillies and so many more.

It was quiet, but alive.
Peaceful, but vibrant.
Just enough to reset my spirit.

You’re always welcome here. Come walk in the OMS.
