I admire the trainers who always look so professional. Their photos are polished, their candid shots seem effortless, their attire always fits the discipline they’re riding or training for, and their videos are beautifully put together.

I’ll admit, sometimes I wish I looked that professional too. Maybe people would take me more seriously.

But if you’ve known me long enough, you know I’m not someone who always has it all together. More often than not, you’ll find me with a stained shirt, muddy boots, or sometimes no shoes at all.

What I pray for isn’t a perfect appearance. I pray that I’m always wearing patience, that I bring self-control into every situation, and that I never waver from who I’m called to be. Whether I’m taken seriously or not, I pray I never let it change my character.

Because at the end of the day, how we carry ourselves matters far more than how polished we appear.

Have you ever noticed that many carriage drivers sit on the right side of the carriage instead of the left like we do in a car?
Traditionally, drivers sat on the right side of the carriage so they could hold the whip in their dominant hand—usually the right hand—without it crossing over or accidentally brushing against a passenger seated beside them. It also gave them a better view of the horse and carriage while traveling.
So the next time you see us driving from the right seat, you’re actually looking at a tradition that’s been passed down through generations of horsemen and carriage drivers. 🐎❤️

Just because a horse is standing still doesn’t mean they’re relaxed.

Sometimes stillness is relaxation. Sometimes it’s tension, uncertainty, or even a horse that feels stuck and unsure of what to do next.

The key is learning to read the whole horse—not just whether they’re moving. Soft eyes, relaxed muscles, steady breathing, and a calm expression tell a very different story than a horse standing rigid, tight, and focused.

Stillness by itself isn’t the goal. Understanding what’s behind it is.

Knowing the difference can change everything about how you respond and how your horse learns to trust you.

One thing I never want to lose in this journey is the reason I fell in love with horses in the first place.

Long before training became a business, before schedules, goals, and numbers, it was simply about being with the horse. The quiet moments in the barn, the grooming, the saddling up, the time spent learning each horse’s personality and building trust one day at a time.

As I continue to grow, I never want this to become just a business transaction. I don’t want to be so focused on numbers that I miss the connection. I don’t want to lose the joy of grooming my own horses, tacking them up, or being the one putting in the daily work that creates the foundation for everything else.

Training isn’t just the ride. It’s every moment before and after. It’s the relationship, the consistency, the understanding, and the partnership that develops through spending real time together.

There may come a day when I need help, but I always want to stay hands-on and connected to every horse in my program. Because at the end of the day, the horses don’t care about growth, success, or numbers. They care about trust, patience, and the person showing up for them every day.

That’s the part I fell in love with, and that’s the part I never want to lose.

Here, Cha Cha thinks she’s tied.

The lead rope is simply draped over the rail, but in her mind she’s secured and can’t go anywhere. The truth is, if she tested the rope with even the slightest pull, she’d quickly realize it has no power to hold her back.

Yet because she believes she’s tied, she stands content exactly where she is.

For a horse, that’s a wonderful quality. For me, it’s a reminder.

How often do we allow things with no real power over us to keep us from moving forward? Fear, past failures, other people’s opinions, disappointment, or setbacks can feel like ropes holding us in place. But many times, the only thing keeping us stuck is the belief that we’re stuck.

My prayer is that I always test the rope. That I never allow fear, hard falls, difficult horses, or the opinions of others to keep me from where God is leading me.

May I never become so comfortable where I am that I stop growing, stop learning, or stop moving forward.

Sometimes freedom is only one step beyond the rope we never thought to test.

Duchess is being suspiciously affectionate lately. She lets me hug her and kiss her like we’re lifelong friends. Either the training is working, or she’s lulling me into a false sense of security before the foal arrives. 😂🦓
