Aragon Alpacas Aragon Alpacas in southeast Eugene, OR. Farm visits Tues-Sat by appointment. Aragon Alpacas is home to a small herd of alpacas raised for their exquisite fleece.

We breed, birth and board alpacas as well as mentor new owners in their care. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Eugene, OR, we welcome visitors Tuesday-Saturday -- please call or email for availability. Generally, Open Farm Day is held a few times during the year, and various groups schedule their visits: school classes, car clubs, reunions, assisted living facilities, family visitors, etc.

Wool puts itself out because ordinary air doesn't carry enough oxygen to keep it burning.

Fabric fire safety is measured by how much oxygen a material needs to stay alight. Air is about 21% oxygen. Acrylic keeps burning at around 18%. Nylon and polyester need around 20 to 21%. Wool needs about 25%.

So in a normal room, wool only burns while something else is holding a flame to it. Take the flame away and it suffocates.

The reason is that it's protein. Wool is keratin, the same stuff as your hair and nails, rich in nitrogen and holding water inside the fibre even when it feels dry. When it does catch, it doesn't drip. It forms a crust of char that shields everything underneath.

The plastics were made from oil. The sheep made its coat out of grass.
