Puppy Biting - Listen your puppy may be trying to tell you something.
It is normal for everyone to want to pet and pick up your new puppy. They are adorable and sweet and New.

But sometimes we need to remember too much handling and picking up and new people imposing themselves can be OverWhelming.

Just like you don’t want to be touched, hugged or be fawned over all the time, your puppy is the same. Except it doesn’t have a way to tell you that. other than to use its teeth.

In addition, grabbing your puppy to keep it from misbehaving can elicit a defensive response.

The solution
limit picking up to when you most need it or as a training game.
socialization with new people is a calm, short event and on the puppies terms
Have your puppy drag a leash around as long as it is supervised to reduce having to grab your puppy causing a defensive response.
Make sure no one disturbs your puppy when it is resting.

Download our FREE Puppy Biting e-book for my tips and strategies.

Life can feel tough when your dog finds the world challenging.

It is easy to feel like others are judging you, or you just don’t have what it takes.

Have you ever felt that way?

Check out our FIVE THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN WORKING WITH A ‘REACTIVE’ DOG:

It’s just information!
Its information, its not personal, you dog is telling you the only way that it can that they don't yet have the skills for that situation

The behavior is challenging, your dog is not.
Your dog is feeling fear, frustration or overexcitement and that leads to the behaviors you dislike. Your dog doesn't want to feel or act this way. Understanding this helps foster empathy and patience in your training journey.

Off The Job Training First, the On The Job Training
You can’t change your dog’s behavior in the moment of a meltdown. You first need to teach them away from the situation (Off the Job Training). You need to give them new skills and then apply them in the situation at a doable level (on the job training)

Labels don’t help. Think in terms of behavior (my dog barks at other dogs) instead of labels. Behavior is fixable, labels are sticky

Transform Your Dogs Behavior With Games
You can transform your dog’s behave and reshape their brain through fun games. Yes, you can have fun while you train.
Turn training into an engaging adventure that stimulates their mind and reinforces positive behaviours.

Regardless of the struggles your dog has there is always hope. Behavior is always changing, your dog just needs new skills to better deal with the situations life throws at them.

THINK ABOUT ALL THE THINGS YOU DREAMED OF YOU AND YOUR DOG DOING TOGETHER.

Do you ever stop and think back to when you got your dog what those dreams were, what you hoped it would be like?

I would love to hear, what hopes and dreams you had for your life together?

No matter how big or small, Let us know in the comments.

We working towards that dream can really help us to appreciate how far we've come, and to keep us focussed along the (fun!) journey.

🌾 Those pesky foxtails are ready to cause havoc!

Foxtails are the spikey seed heads of various wild grasses. The are designed to burrow into the ground but it also causes them to do severe damage to dogs.

🐩 They hook onto a dogs fur, work their way into the skin and then these tricky seed still don’t stay put and they can travel throughout your dog’s body causing infections and a dog may require multiple surgeries to remove them.

So a little prevention can go a long way.
🐾 Avoid tall grass on walks or outings
🐾 Daily checks after outdoor time will help you remove those rascals before them get imbedded in your dog’s skin.

Pay special attention:
✨ Between toes and pads
✨ Ears
✨ Eyes
✨ Nose
✨ Armpits + groin

Signs of a problem include:
⚠️ Sudden onset limping
⚠️ Head shaking or pawing at their head
⚠️ Repeated Sneezing
⚠️ Obsessively Licking one spot

If you suspect a foxtail immediate vet care is needed. This is not one of those problems that will clear up on its own.
