15 years ago Evendo came into my life like a F4 tornado. He taught me that it’s possible to spook, buck , fart and piaffe all that the same time. He also really taught me what talent feels like. He was as big an a$$hat as he was handsome. Boy let me tell you he was handsome.

He spent many years being kicked out of barns while my friend Sarah owned him. He would always jump, maybe 3 ft taller the he should and he would never be fast enough to make time.

His arch nemesis was an umbrella. They will kill you don’t you know?

He was a favorite for photo shoots. He was brilliantly trick trained. The problem is you never knew when you were going to see all his tricks … at once… one the fly… when ever he felt like.

He would scare people out of the warm-up ring with his theatrics. He would leap and buck then pretend to bolt. Funny thing is he adored the spotlight. The moment you hit the dressage ring, he would give you the best scores you’ve ever had. Once you halted and saluted for your final time, he would then bolt out the back door.

Evendo was as predictable in his unpredictable nature as one could be…If such a thing can be said for a horse.

The last two years he has been fully retired living as a wild stallion for my broodmare band. He has protected them and kept them safe and loved them.

This morning, true to Evendo form, he did whatever he wanted for the very last time. He laid down in the sun and passed away at 27 years old in the field with all his ladies. That’s a really good way to go.

Big bad Bendo I wish I could say it was a pleasure the last decade and a half. But I can say what a journey it has been. Being fortunate to have been allowed to love you for 15 years has been an honor.
