Can we please rally together today?
We’re asking for a $5 Friday to help offset our recent, overwhelming medical expenses and support the birds rescued from the neglect case.

We know we’ve hit our community hard with pleas for support this past week. The reality is—we desperately need it.

An update on sweet Knuckles: he had a big appointment with Dr. Rosen Shiloh Veterinary Hospital today to investigate his recent seizure-like episodes.
The best news? Dr. Rosen doesn’t believe these are true neurological seizures. His brain function remains completely normal and alert even during an episode, meaning they are likely intense muscle spasms stemming from his old spinal fracture.

He handled his sedation and X-rays like a champ, and he’s now starting a new medication to help his body rest while we wait on comprehensive bloodwork.

We are also beyond moved to share that together, you raised $1,015 to help offset his $1,635 bill for today!

After an emotionally heavy year that forced us to cancel our yearly gala, we’ve really struggled to keep up with fundraising.
Seeing so many of you rally for Knuckles reminded us that we aren’t doing this alone—and truly, we can’t do it alone.

We still have a little way to go, but we are so deeply grateful for every single one of you.

An update on Knuckles 💛

Knuckles is still being medicated every 6 hours around the clock. While the medication helps him relax, he is still experiencing alarming episodes, and as of last night, he has developed new, concerning symptoms.

In this video, you can see what his body goes through during these stress episodes—and how quickly he bounces back right after. Because these attacks are becoming more frequent and new symptoms are arising, we remain deeply concerned about his prognosis.

Things have been overwhelming here, but Dr. Rosen (his primary avian vet) will be here tomorrow, Tuesday the 1st. We’ve stayed in close contact with her throughout this process. While we are ready to take him to an ER facility if an acute emergency happens, his complex medical history makes it critical to work directly with his primary vet to get real answers.

So far, our community has raised a little over $700 for tomorrow’s visit! Because we need to run several specialized tests, we expect the bill to exceed $1,000. We are hoping to raise just $300 more in the next 24 hours to cover the cost.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit medical sanctuary, we rely on your support. Knuckles came to us two years ago with a fractured spine and paralysis. It took six long months to regain his strength, and he’s been thriving ever since. We are heartbroken over this setback, but we remain optimistic we can get him the answers he needs.

First off, a massive thank you to our incredible flock family. Thanks to your kindness, we have raised $565 so far toward Knuckles’ upcoming diagnostics!

Every dollar relieves a huge weight, letting us focus on his hands-on care instead of financial stress.

Here is where things stand today:

Fewer Spasms: Since starting his new medication yesterday, his episodes have dropped significantly—from every couple of minutes down to 1–2 every half hour.

More Himself: While the spasms are still concerning, the extra rest between them allows his true personality to shine through. He’s determined to crawl all over me, convinced he has far more body control than he actually does right now!

No New Mutilation: We have not seen any further self-injury or fresh sores since yesterday.

Extra Needy: He is seeking constant physical contact to feel safe, needing to touch me at all times to rest comfortably—and I am more than happy to oblige.

We are in continuous contact with Dr. Rosen Shiloh Veterinary Hospital , who will be coming to the sanctuary in a few days to run essential tests and exotic diagnostics. Because specialized avian/exotic testing carries higher costs than standard vet visits, we still need your support to cover his complete workup.

Our goal remains getting to the bottom of these episodes so we can get our fighter back on track. He has to be OK, and with your help, we will get through this together.

Two years ago, knuckles arrived at our sanctuary paralyzed from a fractured spine. Against all odds, thanks to intensive care and his mighty spirit, he learned to walk again.

He is the definition of a fighter.

But 24 hours ago, his health took a slight back turn.

Knuckles suddenly began experiencing acute neurological episodes.

wing- slapping, foot-stomping, and losing his balance more so than usual. We believe this is phantom nerve pain (Allodynia) and spinal spasms.

We discovered a localized fresh sore near his keel that we believe is from him attacking his own chest, causing inflammation and short-circuiting his fragile nervous system. He has never had a prior history of mutilation.

Knuckles is currently on specialized nerve medication and comfortably resting—but he needs urgent diagnostics, x-rays, and advanced labs this Monday with his Avian vet, who we have been keeping close contact with since this started yesterday.

Our organization has been consistently hit with emergency after emergency this year and because of that,our funds have been critically low.

Every single dollar raised this weekend will go directly to his veterinary diagnostics to give us a better understanding of whats going on and to help stop these alarming episodes.
