I have had so many horribly botched DIY attempts to do this already this Spring. It's horrific. Please reach out BEFORE you mess this up! We can help! Rehabilitator's everywhere are begging you!

5 Minutes Daily Hack

THE ANIMAL IN YOUR ATTIC MIGHT BE A MOTHER WITH BABIES 🦝

You hear scratching above the ceiling at night.
Then silence during the day.

Most people assume “pest.”
But this time of year, there’s a good chance it’s a raccoon mother raising kits.

She didn’t choose your attic because she likes houses.
She chose it because hollow trees are disappearing.

A female raccoon searches for warm, enclosed, elevated spaces to give birth in spring. Attics, chimneys, and crawl spaces now replace the old forest cavities her species used for thousands of years.

The babies are born blind.
For weeks, they can’t leave.

If the mother is trapped or removed suddenly, the kits are often left behind inside walls or insulation — where they slowly die from dehydration or starvation.

🌿 What to do instead:

- Listen first. Baby raccoons chirp and whine softly at night
- Never seal an entry hole without confirming the attic is empty
- Humane wildlife operators use one-way exits only after the family can safely leave together
- Removing food access outside often solves the problem naturally

She’s not “breaking in.”
She’s trying to raise a family in the safest hollow space she could find.

The forest used to provide that.
Now your attic does.

This is getting nuts! I haven’t had this since my first year rehabbing! The soft releases coming up on the balcony and spending hours up here with me and playing and outright enjoying my company!!
Now keeping in mind Petey is a soft release due to small size and Em and Penny because they refused to wild up. But still! It shocks me they prefer to hang out with me vrs exploring the wonderful world of ponds and rivers and trees that’s just next to our property…
Nope, let’s hang out with mom, get groomed, play with all the sea shells and toys. Take naps on the pillows and follow mom back inside and try to get in the bathroom with her! 🤪

Our pretty Penny needs a spa day! 😂 And Em is a raccoon thief! 🤣 Riley’s going to get sick of them sneaking in the door and stealing her items! 🙄

She’s baaaaack .. 😂 Our barn Queen Middle Iddle has extended her reign to include the second floor balcony 😂

Just a word of caution from Star valley Wyoming.
Before you come to our area to visit you must be aware of what is happening here.
People are moving to Star valley, Wyoming in record numbers, there's a housing shortage, rent has doubled, and folks are vacationing here in record numbers...
So if you plan on moving here, or just plan on vacationing at our mountains, rivers, lakes or on our prairies this summer, I think you should know that red ants, fire ants and bedbugs have infested hotels and motels across the area due to a dryer than usual spring.
Bobcats have eaten all domesticated animals and some small children.
The local bear and deer population are all 'in heat' and think your wife/girlfriend is hot.
The poison ivy has overtaken all other vegetation, except for the abundance of psilocybin mushrooms.
We have had bear sightings at every park and town... and some cougars in motel rooms.
Watch out for the jackalopes, they have been extremely aggressive this season.
We have Bigfoot invading our parks, and porcupines "stabbing" small children should they dare to enter the forest.
Skunks have made their way over and multiplied at unprecedented rates and wander the local campgrounds in packs looking for beer.
Murder hornets!?! We’ve got great black clouds of murder hornets, flying ants, and swarms of Mormon crickets and even some Alabama grasshoppers.
Scorpions have been congregating in massive quantities under rocks, logs and automobiles, and tarantulas are now stealing peoples food, and biting like crazy.
I’m pretty sure all private tiger owners have released their cats into the streets of our cities and towns.
Head lice now fly... right beside the bats.
And don't forget the huge potholes sucking up farms and whole neighborhoods in most places.
And let’s not even talk about the mosquito 🦟 problem, west Nile is not something to joke about just ask the local horse population. 😉😆😆

My personal equine therapists ❤️
I can’t express how much these two boys have helped me this year. They are playing a huge part in me finding my smiles and laughter again.
I of course have my raccoon therapists at night but these two get me through the daylight hours ❤️🐴🐴❤️

Poor Ducky. She can smell Middle and is so worried she’s hiding around a corner to get her 🥹
For my new followers: Ducky is a blind year old raccoon with CH that can’t be released ❤️🦝❤️
For information on CH (or Floppy Cat syndrome) please see Ducky’s photo album.

It only took Middle 40 minutes to go from the bedroom (door to the upper balcony), down the stairs and out the back door 😁 She had to stop and snack out of Ducky’s food bowl, stop by the bathroom and grab a drink and toddle up and down the stairs about 6 times .. (every time Riley would growl or even huff, Middle would go back up and stare, like she was daring Riley to back up the growl 😂).
But sadly she seemed scared to go back outside, very spooked. Acted like she wanted to stay in the house for the night. But I knew deep down she wouldn’t have lasted the night being cooped up 😢 She loves the outdoors/freedom to much ❤️🦝❤️
I had to catch a shot of her dozing in the corner before she asked to come in and use the stairs 🥰

So far Middle has reached in the doorway and stole a set of Ducky’s baby keys and Penny stole one of Riley’s glass bobbles 🤭 But Middle is still not ready to go down 🙄 It’s okay it’s only been two hours .. 😂
