People often ask if our horses ever fight or if they all get along?
With any herd there’s always a pecking order and herd dynamics at play, but we can do a few things to ensure every horse stays safe!
1. Feeding plenty of hay —> this ensures there is plenty to go around!
2. Bunk space —> having lots of feed bunks and dispersing the hay allows the horses to spread out, reducing competition.
3. Rail Jail😂 —> if the first two fail, we resort to old school horsy time out. This means either time on the rail to be pet, or getting moved up in the order to hit the trails. A little exercise encourages them to prioritize eating and rest when they are in the pens.
In all, we are proud to say our horses get along pretty well and keep a tight knit group 😆 (…even on their 5,000 acre winter pasture where they could separate if they wished). It’s fun to see them form friendships with each other, and we do our best to ensure a cohesive, happy herd! 🐴
