Here is a great example of the different stages of wound healing and how tailoring our treatment to each phase-combined with excellent owner and patient compliance-can lead to truly remakarbale results.

This girl was attacked by a dog and sustained serious injuries to her neck. Over the course of 6 weeks, the wound was managed according to the different phases of healing (inflammatory, proliferative and remodeling) with debridement, wet to dry bandaging and surgical closure. We are so happy to see she has made a full recovery and can go back to enjoying her swims and play sessions at the park.

Foreign bodies are a common reason dogs present to the emergency hospital and radiographs are a common diagnostic tool we use to screen for foreign bodies. Depending on what object the animal ingested, a lot of foreign bodies (fabric, organic matter, etc.) do not show up readily on radiographs and we may have to apply other diagnostics to confirm/rule out the foreign body (i.e. ultrasound).

Sometimes you get a foreign body so obvious it can be diagnosed by a preschooler. Fortunately for this very hungry dog he got immediate surgery to remove the foreign body (can you guess what it was) and is doing great.

June 6th marks the 30th anniversary of our hospital’s founding. What began as Animal Urgent Care, later became Animal Urgent Care and Specialty Group, then returned to Animal Urgent Care, and is now Escondido Veterinary Emergency. Through each chapter, we have remained one of the longest-standing veterinary emergency hospitals in San Diego County.

Operating a 24/7 veterinary emergency hospital takes an extraordinary team effort. The hundreds of staff members who have been part of our hospital over the years have made this possible through sleepless nights, missed holidays, and sacrifices of time with family and friends.

This profession is demanding and can take both an emotional and physical toll on everyone involved. Even so, it remains a privilege to care for patients when they need us most. As we celebrate this milestone, we are grateful to everyone who has helped make it possible and to the clients who have trusted us with their beloved companions over the past 30 years. We look forward to continuing to serve our community for many years to come.
