Revel and Saxon had a great weekend in Indiana last week! We got to see so many friends and Saxon took everything in stride!

Saxon was awarded a best in show puppy, best in show bred by puppy, reserve best in show rare breed puppy, and a reserve best in show bred by puppy. I'm honestly shocked, as we like to say he's currently being held together with bubblegum and dreams 😂. He still managed two herding group firsts! We are getting out to as many shows as we can to be around all the other dogs and so far he is definitely beating the weird Singleton allegations 💪🏼.

Revel was hot and draggy Saturday but pepped up on Sunday! She managed three best of breeds, two herding group firsts, gold Cup Bronze, rare breed best in show, and a best in show! Always love showing with her.

Up next: Fredonia, NY outside of Dunkirk! This show will only be about an hour away from our house next weekend. We hope to see lots of dog friends signed up! Shows are free to spectate if you want to see some cool new breeds and some familiar ones!

The dogs had a wonderful day meeting honorary Shiloh, Arthur and we finally got to meet Heather and Jackson!

We have been friends on Instagram since her boy Wallace and Cobalt were both pups. Shilohs bring the best people into your lives. 💜

Let’s talk about declining dog show entries… because this didn’t happen overnight.

The decline started before COVID. Then COVID hit and everything crashed. Afterward, a lot of people had time to reflect on the sport, their lives, and where dog shows really fit into their priorities.

Then there’s money. Entry fees, gas, hotels, food, time off from work… all of it adds up. Economics matter, and people are being much more selective about where they spend their money.

Then we have points and majors—or should I say the lack of them. People don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars traveling to a show with no entries, no points and no chance at a major. But if everyone waits for everyone else to enter… the entries never come. It’s a cycle that honestly makes no sense, but it’s real.

And then there’s probably the biggest factor of all: the culture.

Clubs are struggling. Cliques, gossip, grudges and infighting are everywhere. Just look at social media—some posts start like a bar fight and turn into a full-blown bar brawl. People in the sport are attacking each other while wondering why people are walking away.

We can blame judges, handlers, clubs, registries or whoever is convenient this week, but eventually we have to look at ourselves.

THE SPORT HAS TO STOP EATING AND ATTACKING ITSELF.

Mentor people. Support clubs. Enter when you can. Encourage newcomers. Congratulate someone even when they beat you. And remember why most of us started doing this in the first place—the dogs.

If we want entries to come back, we have to give people a reason to WANT to come back.
