The MAH team is always working to improve one of Erie’s few remaining family-owned veterinary hospitals. We take all the feedback we receive and use it in our training to better serve our community! Our transition to Weave will allow for easier, more convenient ways to communicate. We are excited to get started. Please be patient as we learn the new system, work out the kinks, and utilize new opportunities to improve. 🐾

IS MY PET TOO OLD FOR SURGERY?

This is a question we are commonly asked by owners facing the decision of taking their pet to surgery. The short answer is that age alone often does not influence our recommendation.

We look at multiple factors. For instance, does the surgery improve the wellbeing of the pet, are there medical conditions present that increase anesthesia risks or may cause post operative complications, has the pet had proper presurgical screening are just a few. We weigh the pros and cons of surgery and help educate owners to make the right decision for them.

My beloved Maggie is 11 years old. She just had ear hematoma surgery last Wednesday. Pros and cons were evaluated and it was clear that surgery was in Maggie’s best interest.

If your pet has a surgical need, but you have postponing it due to age, please make a surgical consult so we can help. We may recommend against it, but it never hurts to have that open discussion.
