We often get asked how urinary tablets help, and we'd love to offer a brief explanation. We focus on dietary balance rather than cutting calcium.

The urinary tablets work by adding more anions for the kidneys to use to lower the urine pH. For this to work, the entire diet should be optimally balanced. The next 2 paragraphs explain two major sources of cations and why small herbivores tend to have an excess of cations and a deficit of anions.

Dietary Cation Anion Balance (DCAB) - Generally, there is a deficiency in anions (negatively charged ions/minerals such as chloride, sulfate, phosphate). This is important because as the kidneys filter the blood and expel the 'excess' the charge has to be balanced. Too many cations (positively charged ions such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium...) create a 'deficiency' in anions. The body makes up for a deficiency in anions by making its own non-mineral anion to help balance the charge. That anion is carbonate. It is unfortunate that carbonate binds to calcium and creates sludge.

Back from Bunnyfest! We had such a great time! Such a busy event, and we got to meet so many new people and loved seeing familiar faces. Thank you to everyone who was out there supporting the event! We want to welcome Cinnamon Toast Crunch aka Toasty Girl to the Sherwood Foster Family. Teresa took this girl in after she needed rescuing. She is very skinny and has ear mites, but she is in great hands and will be going to a rescue too! She is such a sweetheart and already loves Snackies and begs for them all day 😂💖
