This conference reassured me about the dog training and behaviour industry. I admit, I’ve felt pretty burnt out for a while now, and I know that the same is true of many extremely competent people.

The explosion of a social media reflection of the industry has done more bad than good. The self has been prioritised over the dog. ‘How to be a successful online dog trainer’ has choked the industry integrity. Online presence and flipping fast courses for fast cash have become the norm, with the struggling dog being the springboard to a destination that isn’t focused on helping the dog, rather than helping the dog itself being the destination.

But this International Association of Canine Professionals conference reminded me that ‘social media’ is a fake landscape.

Real dog people are good, kind and supportive people.

There’s been a cloud over the industry for the past 10 years or so. But the people we met here provided nothing but sunshine and laughter. The atmosphere was supportive, interested and friendly. It was happy. And whilst happiness plays second fiddle to hate for an ‘algorithm’, happiness is the most beautiful thing in the real world.

Thankfully, the real world is on this side of the glass!

Has your dog been asked to take a break from grooming?

We provide in-home training for dogs who struggle with the grooming process.

We work on the specific skills your dog needs to practice so they can return to their groomer safer, calmer & better prepared.

Grooming-related training can include:
• Handling
• Brushing & combing
• Feet, paws & nail handling
• Clippers & grooming tools
• Face, ears & sensitive areas
• Standing calmly on a grooming surface
• Fear, stress & defensive behaviors

Confidence starts with curiosity! Stella is here for our puppy board-and-train program, and today she’s working on a fun confidence-building exercise. By searching for treats hidden in a pool of cans and bottles, she’s learning to problem-solve, use her nose, and think through new challenges.

This exercise also helps safely expose her to unfamiliar sounds, textures, and movement in a controlled environment. The goal isn’t just finding treats, it’s helping Stella build confidence so new experiences become opportunities instead of something to fear. We’re so proud of this sweet girl’s progress!

Some tired pups here tonight after work! After playing and working on some training, we’re reinforcing “place” while everyone cools off.
