A sweet treat from an even sweeter patient! 🍪🐾

Meet Tuna! ❤️ Back in September, Tuna came to VRCC after suffering some serious bite wounds from another dog. After receiving treatment from our team, including wound closure and drain placement, Tuna made a wonderful recovery!

At her final recheck last week, Tuna's owner surprised our team with this adorable cookie cake as a thank-you!

We're so happy to see Tuna doing well and are grateful for such a thoughtful gesture. Wishing this sweet girl all the best! ❤️🐶

A few more grads from last week! 🎓🐾

Finn, Solo, and Ginger all had plenty to celebrate. Finn recently finished radiation treatment for a mast cell tumor and is now continuing his care with our Medical Oncology team.

We loved getting to celebrate all three of these sweet patients and the progress they’ve made. Way to go, Finn, Solo, and Ginger! 💗🎉

🐾 Kakashi’s Parade! 🐾

Kakashi, a handsome Husky mix, came to VRCC last week after his family noticed he was coughing, panting, lethargic, and just wasn’t acting like himself.

Dr. Rump and our Emergency team took X-rays and found a concerning area in his lungs. Brooke from our Imaging team then performed a CT scan, which revealed a lung mass. Dr. Linder and our Surgery team performed a lung lobectomy to remove the affected portion of his lung, and Dr. Raj and our Critical Care team helped care for Kakashi through his recovery.

After everything he has been through, we were so excited to celebrate Kakashi with his very own parade today! 🎉💙

It took several teams across VRCC to get this sweet guy to this point, and we loved getting to cheer him on.

Way to go, Kakashi!! 🐾🥳

Captain has quite the story with VRCC. 💙🐾

Captain, a Colorado Springs Police Department Wellness Dog, was diagnosed with severe pulmonic stenosis by Dr. Julie Martin with our Cardiology team. Pulmonic stenosis is a condition where the pulmonary valve is abnormally narrowed, making it harder for blood to flow from the heart to the lungs.

Last week, Captain returned to VRCC for a balloon valvuloplasty, performed by Dr. James Creevey and Dr. Pam Lee along with the Cardiology team. During the procedure, a balloon catheter was guided across the narrowed pulmonary valve and inflated to help widen the opening and improve blood flow. (slide 2)

Captain’s procedure went very well, and his pulmonic stenosis was successfully improved. ❤️

He also has a special connection to VRCC that goes way back. Captain first came to us as a puppy after being surrendered and was fostered for several weeks by a member of our team. Today, he has a pretty important job helping support the Colorado Springs community as a CSPD Wellness Dog.

We’re so happy to have been part of Captain’s journey and even happier to see him doing well after his procedure. 🐶💙
