Do ya wanna see all the cuties in this session’s Level 1 and Puppy classes? I know you do!

“Kate, it’s week three! What’s taken so long?!” Well, I asked the Wednesday night class to remind me not to forget to take their pictures again and they didn’t. So blame them. 😜 It’s great when a class is so fun that you forget your social media duties!

Working with a reactive dog isn’t a quick sprint. It’s more like a slow, steady walk where the scenery changes one little win at a time. I wish I could tell my clients it only takes three sessions, or five, or some neat little number tied up with a bow. But the truth is, the timeline belongs to the dog. Their pace, their comfort, their nervous system.

It takes time.
It takes patience.
It takes understanding.

We’re not asking dogs to simply “stop barking.” We’re helping them rewrite their whole experience of the world so they don’t feel the need to respond that way anymore, all the while trusting their human to handle the situation.

Jess and Jim have been working with us on and off since early this year, and they are the definition of a committed team. Jim came in with some bad experiences. His reactions were big, loud, and honest. But Jess never once backed down from the work.

They’ve met every challenge we’ve thrown their way, so today we brought out the big guns. Enter Allie: my very sassy Schnauzer/Heeler mix who loves playing the role of “naughty dog” - maybe a little much. 😉 You might think she’s the reactive one in this video, but nope! She’s our chaos‑gremlin helper dog, here to make sure Jim can handle the real world, where not every dog is quiet, polite, or in a perfect heel.

As you can see, they did beautifully!

I’m so proud of how far this team has come, and even more excited to see how far they’ll go. Watching a dog (and human) learn to breathe again is one of the best parts of this job.

Drop‑In Rally is ON!
Ready to learn, laugh, and level up your teamwork? We’ll break down a novice course, tackle signs, talk delayed reinforcement, run the full thing, and have a blast doing it. Maybe throw in some intermediate signs, to boot! It’s $30 to join! Message me if you’re joining — we need at least two handlers to kick off class! Hope to see you there!

A quick reminder from Scruffy Dog Mentor, Allie!

We love seeing all our clients and their pups, and meeting new ones! We’re always excited to welcome you to the property! But just a quick reminder that all visits are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please call or text ahead of time if you plan to visit without an appointment.

Even though the address is public, this is also our home, and the personal dogs are often loose helping with farm chores. For everyone’s safety and comfort, please give us a heads up before stopping by so we can make sure the space is set up for you.

Thank you for respecting our little farm and keeping things running smoothly for everyone! 🐾❤️
