Recently, some of our licensed technicians visited the Port Dickinson Elementary school to chat with the students about all things animal! Hot topics included pet care, pet health and pet safety. Our lead tech, Izzy, led the discussion and also brought her pet snake, Phoenix, an albino corn snake! LVT, Autumn, brought her pet, Uno, who is a bearded dragon. And, LVT, Ali, brought her pet kitten, Mouse. The kids loved getting to see these animals up close and some were even brave enough to pet them! 🐍🦎🐈‍⬛🏫

In preperation for this event, the students collected pet supplies to donate to our hospital, pet pantry and rescue. Back at the hospital, some of our best furry inspectors put their paw of approval on the mountain of generosity! Seen in the last photo are Kix, Fruit Loop, Cheerio and Mouse!🏔️

A very unexpected pair of angel wings were put on our favorite vertically challenged furbaby. Bumpy was our CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) boy and he has been a permanent supervisor at the hospital for most of his life. His oversized fluffy bed had the best view of our reception area, where he kept a close eye on all the daily activites. He met lifes challenges with such determination and was the first to tell you that he didn't need any special treatment! Despite being unable to walk, he had no problems getting himself around. He simply channeled his inner inchworm when he wanted to get moving, slowly but surely always getting where he wanted to go. He loved attention and could easily charm you into dropping everthing to sit and chit chat. He'd lift his head with a gentle bobble and lure you right in with those cloudy eyes that still shown so brightly. He gave the best slow blinks and was an expert at teaching us about perseverance. None of us knew he secretly wanted his wings, but of course we gave him the most majectic set we had. With them, he flew over the rainbow to run around and frolic with old friends. Surely he'll be greeted first by LeeLee, Capone, and Tammy. The next stop will be sharing some catnip with with Eve, Cleo and Jovie. Thanks for all the life lessons sweet boy and be sure to tell everyone we said "meow".💔🪽🌈😽

We're closed today to remember and honor all the human and animal soldiers who made the ultimate sacrafice to defend our country. Not only did many men and women lose their lives, but many dogs, cats, and other animals did as well. Here is a small gallery of images that show some of these brave souls during battle.🪖🐈‍⬛🐕❤️‍🩹

Want to learn more about Kaleidoscope Health & Rescue? Stop in to the George F. Johnson Memorial Library on May 9th for a bake sale as well as a can & bottle drive! All proceeds will benefit the Kaleidoscope kitties.
While you're there, you can ask questions about our rescue, our process, and even fill out an application to be considered for adoption. Please be aware that there may only be a few kitties there to meet since we won't be forcing any scaredy cats to participate.🍪😻

At Dickin Memorial Animal Hospital, our veterinary receptionists are the first faces you see when you arrive. Not only do they they provide the first point of contact, they do so much behind the scenes as well. They keep our ship sailing with their compassionate client service and we would not stay afloat without each and every one of them! April is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month!
Sometimes, the first few minutes of an accident can be the most critical in saving your pets lives. Of course we're always here to help, but we'd like to help you learn the basics of how to recognize an emergency and even perform CPR. The Red Cross offers an online course which teaches you first aid and CPR for both cats and dogs. The class is about 35 minutes long and only costs $25. Click the link below and get certified while snuggling right next to your fur babies! 😺🐶😷🩺
