Horse update: I am so delighted to offer the following:

Studs are gelded šŸ˜†and have filled out nicely -3 seal brown grade quarter horse geldings: 2-4 year olds and 1-10 year old. They are 15’ plus and 1,000 lbs.

Tying, feet training, leading, patience and yielding started last week. I am impressed with all of them. (There are stubborn horses and smart horses. These are smart and willing.).

They are ready for the farrier on Thursday. Videos and pictures to follow. 😁

The rescues are coming along.

Making progress: 5 mares with babies headed out on Friday

Romeo is learning to lunge, lead and move his feet with time to soak at the patience post We will also continue to work on trailer loading. The testosterone is gone and he has no interest in the other horses (mares, studs or geldings). He is all muscle and still very kind and gentle.

Drago is coming along and is slowly losing weight. Today was a good ride, we worked on going straight, moving forward and softening in the sides and mouth. He was eager to go and we rode about 2 miles.

The last week has been an incredible journey of growth and freedom. We finally set the two year-old and the yearling free in the pasture, and it's been amazing to see them thrive. They're so friendly and have truly earned their ticket to freedom.

Then, our neighbor texts us saying the horses got loose across the canal. We jumped into action, driving around and searching for them everywhere. But, to our surprise, they were happily grazing in our pasture. I thought the neighbor was joking. Later, I looked up and the ponies were running wild across the neighbor's field. I guess they found a sneaky way through the water gap. They had to walk down into the creek, up the creek 15 feet, under the fence, and then leap over a 20 foot steep bank. It was an impressive display of agility and determination. Apparently, they got a little spooked and decided to come back home. I guess the young ones learned that the pasture isn't always greener on the other side.

One of the mares came up lame, so we had the vet out as the horse trailer is in the shop getting a hay rack installed... 20 years later. We had to sedate the mare to touch her feet. The vet said she had an abscess, so we doctored her up and put her in the corral. I'm looking forward to her recovery. The vet left us some medicine to sedate her, so we'll see how that goes.

One of the black studs is getting ready to be gelded next week. He's a little anxious but he's settling down.

We've got two 2 year-old studs and they're hilarious to watch. They're like two toddlers in the pen, bucking and kicking and playing with each other.

We finally got the halter on the new baby and turned it back in with the other baby. Now they're playing together in the corrals with the mares. The aged mares are a bit dull, thankfully.

All the horses are getting exposed to all sorts of new experiences - farm equipment, dogs, kids, motorized vehicles, side-by-sides, tarps flapping in the wind, people on ladders, electric fences, etc. We've got two families living on site helping with the horses and maintenance. Two young teenagers have taken over feeding duties and are enjoying riding the older horses. On Saturday, they disappeared for six hours into the field. I guess they were just enjoying the freedom.

The younger kids are taking care of the chickens with supervision and are doing a great job - we're getting nine eggs a day out of 10 chickens. One of the kids had a yard sale and some guy gave him 20 bucks without taking anything. It's heartwarming to see kindness like that. The kids are running wild around the property, laughing and playing, and it's just great to see. It fills me with joy and makes me feel like I'm doing something right.

Well, off to another day of adventures and getting ready to start another horse today. 🤣

This week has been exceptionally busy. Romeo's foot trimming procedure went smoothly, and his training and willingness were evident. He conducted himself with remarkable composure, as if he had undergone the process numerous times. Today, he underwent gelding, received vaccinations, and had his wolf teeth removed. He displayed remarkable cooperation with the veterinarian, allowing the administration of shots and the placement of a catheter. He loaded into the trailer with ease, facilitated by a few snacks. This marked his first experience with trailer loading, and he adapted admirably. Furthermore, he unloaded and reloaded without issue, demonstrating his growing confidence. I am thoroughly impressed with his development. Drago completed his second ride, focusing on refining his responsiveness to reins, maintaining a consistent pace, and executing precise turns. Yesterday, he underwent foot trimming and responded favorably. The black stud continues to exhibit remarkable endurance in our round pen training sessions, with a focus on leading and trailer loading in preparation for his upcoming gelding procedure.

These horses are all coming along nicely so if you are looking for a willing partner, please send me a message and see what is available.

One gray mare, pregnant possibly with twins, due any day
One big Bay mare, Scarlett, pregnant, and due any day-wait list forming

The cost to geld is $400 and the studs will be gelded before they leave the property.

When inquiring about a horse, please tell me a bit about your experience handling horses who have never been handled before. These horses are nice and friendly, but unhandled.

What does unhandled mean? Unhandled means you can’t touch their face or any place else, they haven’t had a halter on them. They’ve not had their feet picked, they don’t know what a treat is, they haven’t been groomed, medicated, or wormed, without sedation, a pat is a punishment but love rubs, and they cannot be turned out to pasture. The best place for them is in a corral and a round pen no larger than 25 feet so you can handle them gently. They have big bubbles and prefer you to stay outside of it so they need to be taught to trust people first. Once they trust you they’re pretty forgiving. They are not mean.

We want to set them and you up for success after they leave Sycamore Place. If you want some additional training for them, we can do it or you can come on site and we’ll work with you do it.
