We want to wish one of the very best CVTs, Helen a big congratulations! She will be leaving our clinic, (her last day is Thursday) to start a new endeavor as a teacher at PRTA. We know she will be an awesome addition to their animal science program with her knowledge, excellent skills and wonderful teaching ability! We are so sad to see her go, but you never know when she may pop in for a day if school is out. Please send all your well wishes her way as she deserves that and more!!

Happy Wednesday! Case of the week is Maddie. She came in lethargic, panting and a rapidly enlarging belly. She was immediately assessed by our team and was found to be anemic with a large bleeding mass on her spleen. Dr. Nutting and team stabilized, then proceeded to surgery to remove her mass. She has made complete recovery and is back to her sassy self! If you have a pet that rapidly becomes tired, bloated looking or decreased appetite we always recommend them being seen. Here is Maddie on her night walk post surgery and her now!

PSA regarding cryptorchid (retained or non descended) testicle(s). We have been seeing an uptick in dogs with this condition and often get asked: do they have to get removed even if they don't plan on breeding? The answer is YES! They are 10-13x more likely to develop testicular cancer! If that isn't enough reason they are also more likely to have a twisting of the cord requiring emergency surgery. Below is a picture of a crypt vs normal testicle post neuter, you can see how shrunken and misshapen the retained testicle is because it was not in a normal position.

🐟Fishing🐟 season is in full swing, which means we start seeing hooks stuck in tongues, lips, and paws of our pets. Please keep 🎏 in a box, even though the hooks don't have bait or fish on them dogs and cats love the smell and taste! We saw this loveable goofball with one in his tongue yesterday. A reminder please do not pull them out due to their barbs and seek care for safe removal.
