CONSISTENCY MATTERS. SHOWING UP MATTERS.

We’ve been going to the Black Canyon play days here in Emmett since spring, and at the last one, Seven helped Rylee bring home her 15th buckle for the summer.

Is Seven fast? No.

Was Seven consistent? Yes.

Did Rylee ride the horse underneath her, instead of wishing she was younger and faster? Yes.

Did it pay off? In spades.

Rylee started the season with her semi retired mare, and consistently scored times in every pattern. And let me tell you, there were a lot of incredibly FAST horses, but there were also a lot of NO TIMES.

When her mare couldn’t perform after the third event, Rylee retired her and asked if she could borrow a 26-year-old lesson horse. Because in the end we do what is right for the horse.

THAT’S HORSEMANSHIP.

In the end it ALWAYS pays off.

THE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT DRILLS

Riders often think that if they do drill after drill after drill, it will make their horse better, stronger, faster. The truth is, the drill is not the solution. The drill is just a vessel to help develop the quality you are looking for.

It’s not about the DRILL , it’s about the QUALITY of the MOVEMENT and the EX*****ON …

If you want the DRILL to yield results, you must understand the PURPOSE of the exercise, and the FEEL of what’s going on underneath you

The results are only as good as your understanding of why, and how, you are using this drill.

It all comes together….. and then it all falls apart…

AND THAT’S OK… that’s part of learning, that’s part of building balance, stamina, and strength.

And when it falls apart, it’s just one more chance to practice it correctly again

“Think, Observe, Adjust. Make it easy for a horse to succeed.”

New experiences can be set up in a way for the Horse to be successful. Make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard right? It’s just about boundaries. Set the boundaries and let them find it. If they can’t, think, observe, and adjust.

I’ll keep saying it, these Docz Smart Shiner babies are awesome.

Nothing works, if you don’t do the work

This, my friends, is why we teach our horses to hobble. Also, fences don’t work if they’re not turned on 😬

If you are not experienced and hobbling your horse, please do not just try and see what happens. Find somebody reputable who knows how to train for hobbling.
