I love what she says in this post. “The horse is never wrong.”

The Outside the Turn app is almost here, and I’m going to give one of you a lifetime

But this Sunday morning, I want to tell you why I’m building it. Because whatever you want to do with your horse, you deserve to understand how to help them get there. And your horse deserves someone willing to keep learning.

I saw a post from Ellicot Miller Horsemanship this week that said,
“Knowledge can be shared,
but understanding must be earned.”

That stayed with me. Someone can tell you where to put your hand or when to use your leg, but learning to recognize what your horse needs in that moment takes awareness, practice, and a willingness to adjust.

That’s why I talk so much about the horse never being wrong. They’re responding to what they understand, what they feel, and what we’ve presented. If the answer isn’t what we hoped for, we owe them a closer look at our question.

Sometimes that means changing our timing. Sometimes it means letting them move and giving them room to find the answer. Sometimes it means recognizing that the smallest try deserves a
release, even when it doesn’t look impressive to anyone watching.

Those things matter whether you ride down a trail, work cattle, run barrels, start colts, or simply want to enjoy your horse more.

Awareness, empathy, and presentation belong in every one of those conversations. The discipline changes; the responsibility to the horse doesn’t.

That’s what I’m bringing into Outside the Turn. I’m building a place where you can learn through training videos and courses, ask questions in a community, and begin to understand why I make the decisions I make with a horse. I want you to have something you can take back to your own
horse and use thoughtfully.

Has your horse done it 100 times?

Every time I’m working with a client and I hear, “My horse has done that before,” I hear my mentor’s voice in the back of my head:

“Has the horse done it 100 times?”

Just because your horse has done something once — or even a few times — doesn’t necessarily mean they truly understand it yet.

And then one day they don’t do it well, and we’re confused.

“But they know how to do that.”

Do they?

Have they done it 100 times?

Horses need consistency. Consistency and clarity create understanding.

There’s a difference between getting something right a few times and truly understanding it well enough to do it consistently.

So the next time your horse struggles with something you thought they already knew, instead of asking, “Why did they forget?”

Ask yourself:

“Do they really understand? Have they done it enough times with clarity to really understand ?”

Big things happening!!
For those of you who know me well know how much I talk about the body worker that has changed my life and my horses life. This past few days I took the next step to learn more about this modality. My life has been forever changed. I have officially started my journey to become an ortho bionomy practitioner! I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

This quote really speaks to me. For the past year I’ve been quietly working on developing some sort of rehab / training program for the horses that I cross paths with. (maybe not so quietly for those I see on the regular basis as I’m pretty excited about this!)

Often this is not a training issue, it is a physical limitation, a balance/compensation issue, or an expectation issue. It doesn’t just affect the body, it affects the horse’s BEHAVIOR.

⭐️ Rebalance the body, rebalance the mind, rebuild the horse.

Seasons of Life

I know for myself, and for so many others, that the season we are in right now is not for the faint of heart.

It’s a season of struggle.
A season of pain.
A season of doubt.
A season that sometimes feels like defeat.
Like hope has gone quiet.
Like my joy is missing, and no matter how hard I look for it, I just can’t seem to find it.

But fear not.

Because seasons are not the same for everyone. And they are not forever.

God never promised us a life without hardship. He never said there wouldn’t be valleys, storms, or days when we feel like we have nothing left to give.

He promised us that we would never walk through them alone.

And I know that to be true.

Some days, I feel like I’m barely making it through. And yet, somehow, I get up again. God is there, picking me up off the ground, reminding me to keep going when I don’t know how much more I have left.

I don’t have all the answers.
I can’t make all the pain disappear.
I don’t know what tomorrow looks like.

But I know I am not walking into it alone.

I know how incredibly blessed I am to have a husband who meets me with compassion when I don’t have the words. To have people around me who believe in me when I struggle to believe in myself. To have a support group that reminds me that I don’t have to carry everything by myself.

And I think about my kids.

When they are overwhelmed and struggling to regulate, I hold them close and tell them, “I’ll take big breaths for you until you can take them for yourself.”

Maybe this season is teaching me that sometimes we need someone to do that for us, too.

Sometimes faith doesn’t look like having it all together.

Sometimes faith is simply getting up one more time.

Sometimes faith is taking the next step when you can’t see where the path is going.

Sometimes faith is letting someone hold you while you breathe.

So I may bend.

I may stumble.

I may have days where I cry, question, and wonder how much longer this season will last.

But I will not break.

Because my hope was never supposed to rest in the absence of hardship.

My hope rests in the One who walks with me through it.

Jesus beside me, I’m walking by faith.

Not because I know what’s ahead.

But because I know Who goes with me.
