I am so proud of how well Kapi did at the park with all the dogs and people we passed. I thought I was recording for the 1st 5 dogs we passed but it looks like I wasn’t :/

Lots of dog training is really about being creative.

Ozzy is an extremely shy dog especially with men and Kevin is less scary when he is laying down.

Even laying down, Ozzy wanted to hide behind me, and every time I moved he would just put himself behind me.

So how do I support him being independent, but also be present to have my presence support him?

Standing over Kevin didn’t give Ozzy a place to hide.

In public, standing behind me is perfectly acceptable and he doesn’t need to go say hi nor will I encourage it, I’ll advocate for him.

But for people that will always be in his inner circle, family members, close friends of the family and he comes to stay here periodically I want to help him branch out of his comfort zone just a smidge and make a couple new friends that he will always see when he’s here.

All training is about balance.

He would like to bolt and hide. That I’m not allowing he has to stay with us on the leash.

But we also aren’t flooding him making him accept pets or go for a walk with Kevin without me as those things would be too hard for him at this point.

But we have also made it as easy for him as possible. And Kevin started out flat on his back and worked up to being able to face him and toss him cookies.

Seeing those curious, engaged ears forward while interacting with Kevin made my night last night 😃
