Brian's Veteran's Day harvest!
My buddy Brian is a Military Vet himself, and got the opportunity to harvest this nice doe on a special day! He called me from the stand after the shot and since he was hunting with his crossbow, he knew where his aim point was, but couldn't recall where the actual impact was. Crossbows shoot very fast, and even with a lighted knock, it can be hard to tell where the entry was.
With this info, we decided it was best that he climb down at dark, take a pic of the bolt, back out and come grab some BBQ fresh off the grill b4 we head out with Radar. About 3hrs post shot, Radar made quick work of it and was tugging on his doe within minutes. We found spotty blood after 30yds, and it started opening up the further we went, but still never gushing due to where the shot was. The shot ended up being high & foward, penetrating both shoulders & both lungs. Even with both lungs collapsing, this doe still ran 400yds un-pressured by humans or predators!
We got to track for a Veteran on Veteran's Day, and you broke our non-recovery streak of chasing non fatal shoulder hits, backwhacks, & jumped deer!! Thanks & Congrats!!
P.S. We normally don't get this kinda luck on shoulder shots! Most of the time, the deer isn't as broadside as hunters think and deflection or lack of pe*******on occurs and several times, the deer show back up on cams or get spotted days later!
