National Pets for Veterans Day is celebrated on October 21st each year. The day's purpose is to help veterans transition back to civilian life by connecting them with shelter animals that need permanent homes, and to raise awareness about the health benefits of owning a pet.

The organization Pets for Vets, founded in 2009 by animal behaviorist and trainer Clarissa Black, is dedicated to helping veterans and saving pets. ❤️

💔 Today, my heart is heavy as I say goodbye to one of the sweet souls I’ve been blessed to care for. At 15 years old, he lived a long life, and I know he was so deeply loved and well cared for by his mama. ❤️

Even when we know a life was long and full of love, saying goodbye is never easy. I’m heartbroken for his mama and siblings, and I’m sending them all my love and deepest condolences during this difficult time.

I feel so blessed to have known him, cared for him, and been a small part of his life. He may have been one of my clients, but these babies always find a way into my heart. Run free, sweet Alf. You were so loved, and you’ll be missed. 🐾🌈💔

Keep them indoors, secure gates and doors, and never leave pets outside during severe weather. If you have to evacuate, take your pets with you. They depend on us to keep them safe. 🐶🐱🐾
