I want to give a shoutout to Gills Auto Sales in Elmira. They fixed my truck in record time, and the whole experience was great. They showed me exactly what was wrong, told me what parts I needed, and let me order them myself and bring them in.
Literally any other shop would have ordered more expensive parts, marked them up, then charged exorbitant prices to install them. Instead, I ordered the parts online (faster and for far less than the dealership wanted to charge), and they had the work done in a couple hours—a full day faster than they estimated.
It’s hard to find good mechanics that don’t treat the mechanically disadvantaged (such as me) like a complete idiot, and then rip you off. In my experience, most shops will even add on a surcharge if you bring in your own parts, essentially penalizing you for not wanting to pad their pockets
Gills will have all my business going forward. They don’t seem to have much of a marketing presence; they’re located just off Washington Avenue next to Gary’s Body Shop. Highly recommended.
