Did you know the temperature inside a parked car can become deadly for pets in just minutes? Even when it’s only 70°F outside, the inside of a vehicle can reach over 100°F within 30 minutes. Cracking the windows does NOT keep pets safe.

Dogs naturally cool themselves by panting, but high heat and humidity can quickly overwhelm their ability to regulate body temperature. Flat-faced breeds like Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, and French Bulldogs are especially at risk for heat stroke. Older dogs and pets with laryngeal paralysis may also struggle to cool themselves effectively.

A normal dog temperature ranges from 99.5–102.5°F. Once body temperature reaches 106°F, life-threatening heat stroke and organ damage can occur.

To help prevent heat stroke in pets:
☀️ Never leave pets in parked cars
☀️ Avoid exercise during peak heat and humidity
☀️ Provide plenty of fresh water and shade
☀️ Watch closely for excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse

If your pet becomes overheated, move them to a cool area, use room temperature water or wet towels, and place a fan nearby. Avoid ice or ice baths, as they can trap heat inside the body.

Heat stroke in dogs is a medical emergency. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you suspect overheating.
