Week 4 started with a discussion about the importance of the handler-dog connection. There are many different situations that can be encountered. We want the dog to know to look to the handler for direction and assurance.

The first exercise, even before greetings, was the handlers talking to their dog, non-stop, for 60 seconds. It seems like a long time, but building the connection is needed for the dog to be able to enjoy the work.

The next exercise, the handlers and dogs zigzagged through cones, changing direction. To do this successfully, the handler has to have the dog's attention.

There are scary, noisy things that could happen during a visit. Nothing like playing with a beach ball with dogs in a sit/stay to build on the team relationship. And after you experience things as a team, they aren't scary after all.
