🚨 A CONVERSATION TODAY REALLY GOT ME THINKING… 🚨
I had someone contact me today who was extremely upset about an experience they had with a local" pet sitter". I’m not going to name the sitter or get into someone else’s personal situation, but from what I was told, this person was not operating as a properly licensed, insured, bonded or vetted professional business and unfortunately, things ended badly.
honestly, this is exactly why I keep talking about the difference between hiring a professional pet care business and hiring someone who simply does pet sitting as a side gig.
To my knowledge, Ashley’s Ark is currently the only pet sitting business in Gilmer County that is properly licensed, bonded AND insured. There are other people who pet sit, but many are essentially doing it as a gig or side job rather than operating a fully established professional pet care business.
there's absolutely nothing wrong with someone loving animals and wanting to make a little extra money.
But you're not just hiring someone to feed your dog.
You're giving someone access to your home, your belongings, your security system, your keys and, most importantly, your animals.
here's another thing people don't always think about:
You don't actually know who you're letting into your house.
I've heard several horror stories from people in this area about situations involving people they allowed into their homes and that's something you should seriously consider before handing your house keys to a complete stranger.
Who is this person?
Have they been properly vetted?
Do you know anything about their background?
Are they insured?
Are they bonded?
Do they have an actual business?
Do they have a contract?
What happens if something is stolen, damaged or goes missing?
What happens if your pet gets hurt?
What happens if your pet escapes?
What happens if your pet becomes seriously ill while you're hundreds or thousands of miles away?
These aren't meant to scare you. They're questions you SHOULD be asking.
With Ashley's Ark, you're getting:
🐾 Licensed
🐾 Insured
🐾 Bonded
🐾 30+ YEARS of animal experience
🐾 Medical & special-needs pet experience
🐾 Professional contracts and forms
🐾 Veterinary and emergency information on file
🐾 Experience recognizing when something is medically wrong
🐾 A plan for emergencies
🐾 Accountability as an established business
I've spent more than 30 years working with animals. I've cared for pets with medical conditions, senior pets, special needs animals and everything in between.
I know what normal looks like. I know when something doesn't look right, And I know when it's time to stop waiting and get veterinary help.
That's the difference between someone who simply says, "I love animals," and someone who has spent decades actually learning how to care for them.
Your pets can't tell you when something is wrong.
You need someone who knows how to recognize it.
So before you hire ANY pet sitter, ask questions.
Ask about licensing.
Ask about insurance.
Ask about bonding.
Ask about experience.
Ask how they handle emergencies.
Ask how they protect your home.
Ask what happens if something goes wrong.
Because when you're trusting someone with your pets and your home, “They seemed nice” isn't really enough.
Your pets are family.
Hire someone who treats the responsibility that way. 🐾❤️
