Puppy biting is one of the hardest stages for dog owners. 🦴

The good news? Most puppies grow out of it, especially when you redirect them to a chew toy and teach a solid "leave it." But some dogs carry mouthing and biting into adulthood, and that's what we want to prevent.

In this video, I share a few different techniques, and they're not all equal. Some are more hands-on, which work best for puppies under 5 months, and aren't always necessary.

I like to show you multiple options, but you have to decide what's best for you and your dog. This little guy is pretty wild and biting a lot, so I'm walking his owners through several methods. Not every one will be a good fit for them, or for you.

Your foundation: redirection to a chew toy and teaching "leave it." Start there.

PART 2: Leash pulling has to go. Constant tension on the leash makes walks miserable for you and your dog. Here's step two on the road to a loose-leash walk. Remember, this is all in the teaching stage; we aren't adding huge distractions yet. The dog has to understand what we want before we start to hold them accountable.

This boxer is scared of new people. The first thing I'm trying to do with him is build some trust and then start working on recall because is the number one behavior to teach a dog.

If you have a dog that likes to jump up on you, practice making a ceiling with your hands. You can also walk toward the dog to get them to move backwards, teaching them to give you space when you do this movement.

Fear can be challenging to work with, especially with a large Great Dane. We have to find exercises that invite the dog to face their fear and set them up to overcome that fear by making their own decisions. Place training is going to help with multiple behaviors in the house, so we are starting here.
