👉This situation is exactly why we have ALWAYS recommended rabies vaccination to ALL mammals in our practice.
👉This is why we volunteer our time and insist on vaccinating 4-H projects headed to the fair.
👉This is why we recommend vaccination of pot bellied pigs, pet cows, pet goats and llamas, alpacas and other livestock.
💉It is true that there are no FDA labelled rabies vaccines for goats and pigs. However, we have vaccinated for years using a brand that does have broad approval for horses, cows, sheep, dogs, cats and ferrets, without any adverse reaction.
Health officials are warning of a possible rabies exposure after four goats from a traveling petting zoo tested positive following stops in Durham County and several other North Carolina communities.
