None of my dogs, all the sires or dams, have ever shown the genetic problem. It has been brought to my attention in the past 10 years that 3 puppies out of many litters had been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. It can not be diagnosed until they are close to a year old. Prevention steps are: not letting the dog jump a lot like onto funiture or in and out of a truck until they are at least 10 months old; not overfeeding them the first year. As with anything, there are risk factors that can happen.
