Volunteers are working hard, putting in countless hours and a lot of their own money to provide outdoor shelters. It takes a LOT of time and effort to make these every year. From gathering wood, delivering it to be cut, picking it up, getting foam, shingles, paint, and other supplies. We build, put in insulation, paint, and shingle the roof. Not to mention disposing of all of the scrap material! Just a handful of dedicated people have been doing this for over 10 years now, creating our own wood shop at a volunteer's garage. We've distributed thousands of them. We ask for a nominal donation of $40 for the large shelter and $25 for the small. This helps keep our program going. We will post when we have these ready around the end of October, early November. Thank you to Resale to the Rescue, Inc. for helping us this year to purchase wood for this project!

DID YOU KNOW? Indiana law specifically protects TNR’d feral cats in mobile home communities.

Many people don’t realize that Indiana law recognizes Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) as an important way to manage community cats.

Indiana Code 16-41-27-16 states that the animal control section for mobile home communities does not apply to feral cats that have been caught and released as part of a spay and neuter program designed to reduce the number of feral cats in the area. (IN.gov)

What does that mean?

🐾 Ear-tipped, TNR’d community cats are treated differently under this law.
🐾 These cats are helping prevent future litters because they can no longer reproduce.
🐾 Removing sterilized cats often creates a “vacuum effect,” where new, unaltered cats move into the area and the breeding cycle starts all over again.

TNR isn’t just compassionate, it’s an effective, science-backed way to reduce outdoor cat populations over time while improving the health of the cats already living there.

The next time you see an ear-tipped cat in a mobile home community, remember: that little notch in the left ear is more than a symbol. It represents a cat that has been humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to help stabilize the population instead of adding to it.

Some tips to keep ants and flies off cat food:

Make a small moat of water in a pan, then put the bowl of food in it to keep ants from getting to the food.

Place a fan in front of the food to keep flies away. You can use a plug in fan or solar powered ones like this black one sold on Amazon.

104 cats fixed yesterday through Public Vet, 73 females and 31 males! Thank you all for bringing them in and waiting patiently in the heat yesterday.

Helllloooo Elkhart! We are looking forward to coming back to Elkhart on July 7th to fix more cats and kittens (6 weeks and older).

We charge $100 per cat/kitten but we also have some financial assistance available thanks to our friends at Pet Friendly Services! Additional assistance for Elkhart County residents may be available by contacting Elkhart County Feral Cat Coalition.
