It's June Dairy Month. Today is the day to thank a dairy farmer that spends countless hours milking, feeding, and overall managing these incredible creatures that take plants and make them into delicious milk. We can't thank our farmers enough for their dedication to animal health and safe and healthy food production.
Thank you farmers!

Lyme disease is exceptionally common in our area. In fact in Clayton County 1 in 8 dogs have been infected with Lyme disease. Also dogs are not the only animal that can be affected, cats, horses, and people can be infected as well.
At Veterinary Associates of Clayton County, we see animals affected by Lyme disease almost daily, most of them being dogs. Many people don’t realize how great a risk Lyme disease because they don’t see ticks on their animals. But it’s here— and we see it.
Lyme disease is spread by ticks. These ticks are out and about any time the temperature is above 30 degrees. Many dogs can be asymptomatic (not showing any clinical signs). But other dogs have strong clinical signs including:
• Lameness
• Fatigue or reluctance to exercise
• Excessive drinking and urinating
• Just being off
Some dogs suffer lifelong complications from this disease.
We strongly recommend year-round tick prevention, vaccination, and daily checking your pets for ticks to keep them protected.
If your pet isn’t currently on a tick preventative, give us a call. We would love to discuss the right option for your pet.
