Freddie B's Furry Friends Rescue 501c3 non-profit I created this page over 9 years ago to share my shelter and homeless/lost pet volunteer rescue and fostering, education, and advocacy. When Freddie B.

In February '24, I became a 501(c)(3) rescue that opened the door for me to help animals in need so much more. FREDDIE B. - FOUNDER/PRESIDENT/RESCUE OPERATIONS LEAD

Freddie B. has been raising dogs since he was a little boy and over the last years 50+ years, has developed the “gift” of being able to understand them, their body language, and in essence, the ability to communicate with them on

some level, in part, due to his Asperger's Syndrome. retired in 2016, he decided to combine his love of dogs and his "abilities" to communicate with them by becoming a volunteer at his local animal shelter. Since then, Freddie has volunteered thousands of hours of his time in various shelters, primarily working with extremely fearful shelter dogs and those with challenging behavior issues. During the early part of the Northern California campfire disaster in Nov. 2018, Freddie B. volunteered nearly 100 hours at the emergency animal shelter in Chico, California helping care for several hundred rescued dogs, and was specifically assigned by staff to work with the most extremely fearful and traumatized dogs, including those referred to as “fear biters" when they quickly recognized his expertise and abilities with working with these types of dogs. In addition to Fredde B’s shelter work, he has developed an expertise in rescuing elusive hard-to-catch stray dogs with a variety of rescue methods and tools, including the use of live taps. Freddie B. has successfully put that expertise to use dozens of times over the years by rescuing those stray dogs that most others could not catch or rescue. can be found commenting on occasion that since his retirement, his life has literally, “Gone to the dogs.”

Aside from Freddie B’s shelter and rescue work, he cares for his five rescue dogs that he considers his family: Dutch, a chocolate lab rescued from the fires during the Northern California Campfire disaster, Lady, a black lab that Freddie B. fostered when she was found as a stray, then turned into a foster fail when no one came forward to claim her, Tiny, a senior Chihuahua that spent the first years of her life living on the streets with her homeless owner before he gave her up, and Tinkerbell and Trixie, two Chihuahua siblings who were strays for over a year in a rural area of Southern California before Fredde B. rescued them by the use of a trap, then became part of his pack when no one came forward to claim them. has also been a certified positive reinforcement dog trainer for over 4 years (Freddie B. the Dog Teacher, L.L.C.) with his specialty being working with extremely fearful dogs and dogs with aggression issues and having a 5-star Google rating from his numerous past clients. In Freddie B’s spare time; aside from his shelter volunteering, community stray dog assists, and dog training, he enjoys spending time with his canine pack consisting of rescues and fosters.. is also a professional photographer and has travelled the world for his photography, in addition to having conducted numerous shelter pet photoshoots in several shelters to help them get adopted - Fredde B. is currently an artist member of the Avenue West Gallery artist coop. in Spokane, Washington as a Fine Arts photographer,

“We must be the voice for the innocent animals that have no voice. We need to be able to stand up for them and protect them. They enhance our lives and deserve safe, comfortable, healthy homes. Bella's rescue: In early January of this year, a pet parent, Olivia Zabroski, reached out to Freddie B's Furry Friends Rescue 501c3 non-profit after her furbaby, Bella, ran off during a windstorm. We discussed a rescue plan that was dependent on sightings of Bella in order to establish a feed station in preparation of a live trap...it took a LOT LONGER than we expected [for a variety of reasons]...here is the story of Bella's journey.

(initial lost dog post: https://shorturl.at/MXIjf)

🐾 BELLA IS HOME! 🐾

After 195 long days, Bella is finally safe and back where she belongs.

Bella has been part of our family since she was a puppy six years ago. On December 11, 2025, around 8:00 PM, severe wind gusts blew our gate open, and all three of our dogs ran out into the neighborhood. A kind person helped scare two of them back home, but Bella became frightened and ran in the opposite direction.

At the time, I had just given birth and was caring for a newborn, making the search especially challenging. My husband spent hours driving around looking for her that first night, but there was no sign of Bella.

We posted everywhere we could and waited. Nearly a month passed before we received the first sighting of Bella in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Weeks later, she was spotted near Francis and Crestline, but she quickly moved on whenever people noticed her. Another sighting came from a security camera near Whitworth University. We attempted to set up a feeding station, but Bella remained elusive.

Over the following months, Bella would occasionally be spotted, but with so many people trying to help, she continued moving from place to place. Then, after three months with no sightings at all, we received a message that a homeowner whose neighbor was renovating had been feeding a stray dog in their backyard.

That's when Freddie stepped in. A feeding station was established, and Bella finally returned.

After being gone for over five months and spending 197 days on her own, Bella is finally home.

We are beyond grateful to every single person who shared her posts, reported sightings, kept an eye out, and never gave up on her. A special thank you to Freddie for helping bring our girl home.

This journey was long, emotional, and at times heartbreaking, but today our family is whole again.

Welcome home, Bella. ❤️🐾

After 22 days, Kismet is HOME.
‐-------------------
Everyone deeply embedded in rescue can attest to there are days that they are completely overwhelmed with grief and sadness and compassion fatigue [for any number of reasons]... and today, was one of those days for me.

But then, a light peeked through earlier this morning, a morning that I did not want to wake up to because being asleep, I did not have to face and feel the sadness and grief I was experiencing.

But it's news like the following that keeps me going and keeps me working through times like these:

6 days ago, Kismet's family reached out to me when she was reportedly sighted visiting a property to eat bird food; up at this point [over two weeks], sightings of her were few and far in between.

Rather than do my normal protocol of setting up a live camera with a feed station to first anchor a lost dog to a feed station before introducing a live trap, I decided to set up a live trap from the get-go.

Day after day since then, the only animal showing up were magpies, and just yesterday, we were about to conclude that she had moved on elsewhere.

Then this morning, Kismet, after 9 days, showed up at the trap and moments later, went inside, bringing her 22-day ordeal to a close.

The video clip shows Kismet joyfully playing at home with her sibling who she was lost with at first..THIS is what keeps me going day after day!!!!

Thank you to the homeowner, Patty, for being instrumental in this rescue by allowing us to set up on her property for however long is needed.

Look who got groomed today and had nearly a half a dozen ticks removed from her. The "before" photo shortly after she was rescued, and the "after" from today.

Thank you so very much Grunts Grooming-Mobile Grooming

No one has yet to come forward to claim her, in spite of us cross posting and sharing extensively.

We still have several more weeks of doing due diligence before we announced that she's available for adoption, so don't please ask right now as we are only focusing on trying to find her family first... if there is anyone looking.

Mazie, it’s EXUBERANT. This sweet girl wakes up happy and goes to bed happy, spending every moment in between exploring life with joy, curiosity, and puppy wonder.

💕 What makes Mazie special? • Loves cuddles and kisses • Playful and full of personality • Enjoys zoomies around the yard • Loves rolling in the grass • Fascinated by birds, squirrels, and airplanes • Great walking companion • Sleeps through the night • Loves being close to her people • Protective and alert when someone arrives at the door

Mazie absolutely loves being outdoors. Whether she's zooming around the yard, taking a stroll through the neighborhood, or simply soaking up the sights and sounds of the world around her, she's happiest when she's exploring. Watching her discover new things has been one of the best parts of fostering her.

On walks, Mazie is a dream. She doesn't pull, doesn't react to other dogs or strangers, and confidently trots along while stopping occasionally for important puppy business—sniffing everything!
In the evenings, she's content to curl up near her people, chew on a collagen stick, and enjoy a relaxing night of TV. When bedtime comes, she happily snuggles up next to her person and sleeps soundly through the night.

Like any young pup, Mazie is still working on basic commands and potty training. She's making great progress and thrives with consistency, routine, and encouragement.

Mazie is looking for a family who will embrace her playful spirit, continue her training, and give her all the love she so eagerly returns.

Could this joyful, kiss-giving, grass-rolling sweetheart be your perfect match?

Last post of the night: during the Foster drop off of Ramona, the Foster captured these emotional moments of me saying my goodbyes to Ramona and Ramona to me...any rescuer can tell you that the bond and connection between the dog they rescue and them is nearly instant and everlasting.

As I was about to leave, Ramona came up to me to say her goodbyes and at one point, as one of the images reflects, she put her paw in my hand as if to say [I would like to believe] "thank you" - this was very emotional but it's part of being a rescuer.

RESCUED: Stray Shih Tzu mix, Paradise Prairie area, Spokane, 06-01-26 (no microchip)

[please see very important announcement at the very end of this post]
____________________________________________________________

🚨 **RESCUED & SAFE: Welcome to the first day of your beautiful new life, Ramona!** 🐾❤️

This sweet Shih Tsu mix—now named Ramona, named after the street she was saved from—is officially safe and warm after a tense, heartwarming rescue in the Paradise Prairie area of Spokane - Ramona is a timeless feminine name of Spanish and Old German origin that means "wise protector" or "counsel and protection". This little pup relied on intuition and speed to stay safe for almost 2 weeks!!
__________________________________________

Here is her story:

🐕 The Backstory

Ramona had reportedly been wandering the area for about 8–10 days. Sadly, she was rumored to be one of four small dogs dumped in the area recently. While the other three were rescued earlier by another agency, Ramona’s extreme fear and skittishness made her nearly impossible to catch. She would bolt the second anyone got close.

Enter an amazing community member, Shelley Rowlan Engle. Shelly managed to anchor Ramona to a feeding station on her property and reached out to me on Monday morning, June 1st, for backup.

🍗 The Rescue Operation

I formulated a plan and headed out to Shelley's property that afternoon. Ramona was spotted near the pool, but she wouldn't let us get within 40 feet before spooking. To make matters worse, shortly after I set a baited trap, two loose neighborhood dogs chased poor Ramona out of sight—she was literally running for her life.

But Ramona's hunger and a few irresistible secret weapons [compliments of Shelley] (**rotisserie chicken and sardines!** 🍗🐟) brought her back under the cover of darkness.

* **9:45 PM:** My cellular surveillance camera caught Ramona approaching the trap, a little over four hours later.

* **A minute later:** She stepped inside, the door safely shut, and her ordeal was finally over! After a brief startle, she went right back to eating her chicken.

* Shelley quickly rushed out to cover the trap with a blanket to keep her calm and warm until I arrived for a safe and secure retrieval.

Before I opened the trap, I secured Ramona with a slip lead to prevent any chance of her darting out out of panic upon removal from the trap, as as I tell of of my rescues within minutes of contact, "Today is the first day of the rest of your beautiful life."

Once opened the trap, she leaned into me and allowed me to pick her right up and carry her to my car.

🛋️ How She’s Doing Now

Ramona spent her first night sleeping like a rock in a cozy crate inside my home—not a single peep! By the next morning, her walls completely came down. During a potty break, she refused to leave my side. Later, while I was working at the desk, Ramona walked right up and hopped into my lap, where she happily snoozed for hours. She is a total lovebug!

---

📋 What’s Next for Ramona

* **Stray Hold:** Ramona is being placed with one of my trusted volunteer fosters for the mandatory **30-day stray hold**.

* **Adoption Info:** If no owner comes forward after 30 days, she will be available for adoption, fully microchipped, vaccinated, spayed!

* **Cross-Posting:** I am actively cross-posting Ramona to all the local lost/found pages, Petco Love Lost, and Washington State – Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets – PawBoost Community Spokane, WA - Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets - PawBoost communities).

_____________
Please do not comment here or contact us asking if this dog is available for adoption or that you would like to adopt when available, as we won't be announcing that she is available for adoption nor accepting any applications for her until the end of the 30-day hold...our focus is on the due diligence of trying to locate any possible family looking for her. We will making the announcement when and if she's available for adoption when the time comes via a post under this album - thank you in advance.
