This is a courtesy post. This is not an ARM dog and any adoption or communication will be with the current owner.
Meet Yonah (like Jonah with a Y)! He is a 5 year old neutered miniature aussie who loves everyone he meets. He was born on February 11th, 2021 and weighs about 24 lbs. He does well with kids, some cats, and dogs. He is extremely outgoing, friendly, and playful.
He has a few charming quirks, such as dropping down randomly in the grass and enthusiastically rolling around (even when on walks) and spinning repeatedly when he sees you holding a treat, hoping you’ll give it to him. He is a very curious fellow and will sometimes tilt his head if you make silly noises at him or say his name in a funny voice. He has a tendency to pull his ears back, which gives him an endearing “seal face” look.
He is a Velcro dog who doesn’t understand the concept of personal space, so expect him to follow you from room to room, sit either next to or on top of you while on the couch, and watch you cook and sniff the ground for crumbs. He loves to snuggle and will go limp in your arms if you cradle him. At night, he likes to sleep in bed with you. He sometimes makes hiccup sounds when asleep.
A fenced yard is not necessary but preferred, as he does NOT have a reliable recall and must be kept on a leash if not in an enclosed area. He walks nicely on a leash, but may lunge if he sees a squirrel running by. He does have some leash frustration when he has pent up energy, which translates to him pulling when he sees other dogs due to wanting to greet them. If exercised enough and given the opportunity to routinely socialize with other dogs off-leash, this will taper off. He has also done beautifully in doggy daycare and adjusts very quickly to new environments.
He is good with having his coat/teeth brushed, nails dremeled, and being given baths. He rides well in the car when placed inside of a safety seat (backseat) and harnessed. He is used to being kept inside of a crate when alone at home.
He has some mild separation anxiety at times, so he is looking for a home that is NOT in an apartment. Despite this, he rarely barks and is very quiet in general. He will bark and growl if someone knocks on the door or if he sees something concerning when outside.
The ideal home for him would be a retired person or a retired couple, but other homes may be considered.
Anyone interested will be vetted. A rehoming fee (no higher than ARM) and home visit will be required. A trial period to ensure compatibility between him and the prospective new owner will apply. A contract will be drawn up to ensure he is returned to the current owner if the new placement does not work out at any point in the future. The current owner will always be available to answer any questions and would appreciate receiving occasional updates from the new owner. Past photos and videos taken of him as both a puppy and an adult will be provided to the new owner.
Please reach out with any questions.
