👃 Nose
Sneezing fits (often sudden and violent)
Nasal discharge (sometimes bloody)
Pawing at the face
➡️ Can travel into sinuses or lungs if untreated

👂 Ears
Head shaking
Crying or sensitivity when touched
Ear infections
➡️ Can lodge deep in the ear canal and damage the eardrum

👁️ Eyes
Redness, swelling, squinting
Tearing or discharge
➡️ Can scratch the cornea or get trapped under eyelids

🐾 Paws (VERY common)
Limping
Swelling between toes
Excessive licking
➡️ Can burrow into the foot and cause abscesses

Small lumps or draining tracts
Red, inflamed areas
➡️ Foxtails can migrate under the skin and travel through the body

🫁 Lungs (from inhalation)
Coughing
Difficulty breathing

➡️ Can lead to serious infections or pneumonia

🐈 Cats Are Not Immune

Cats, especially outdoor cats, can get foxtails in:

What Are Foxtails?

Foxtails are barbed seed heads from certain grasses. Once they attach to your pet, they only move forward, burrowing deeper into tissue instead of backing out.

🚨 Why Foxtails Are Dangerous
They don’t break down in the body
They keep moving forward, causing damage as they go
They can lead to severe infections, abscesses, or internal migration
