His time machine runs on treats, his biggest concern is whether it’s dinner yet, and we’re pretty sure he’d trade the DeLorean for a bed!

Midwest Veterinary Surgical Services offers orthopedic and soft tissue surgery at our hospital two days a week. We can assist with scheduling at our location, just call (847) 584-0200. Dr. Jackson and his team work very closely with the EGVSE doctors and clinical staff to ensure both you and your pet are cared for during the entire process.

Our EGVSE team provides 24/7 care for patients who need additional monitoring following complex procedures or anesthesia, as well as overnight care for worrisome families who want extra peace of mind after their pet’s surgery.

Same surgeon. Same team. Now at two locations, with shorter waits.

Midwest Veterinary Surgical Services now performs all surgery at Elk Grove Veterinary Specialty & Emergency in Elk Grove Village and Lombard Veterinary Hospital in Lombard.

Why the change? Since 2023, our team traveled to a different clinic every day. The hours we spent on the road and setting up are now hours in surgery. That means most patients are scheduled within days, many can have their consultation and surgery in one visit, and your pet recovers inside a fully equipped hospital.

What hasn’t changed: your family veterinarian still refers you and remains your pet’s doctor, you choose the location that’s easier for you, and you still get Dr. Jackson’s direct communication every step of the way.

We’re kicking off National Veterinary Technician Week, ER style: all heart, a little chaos, and plenty of treats! ❤️🐾

Our techs and veterinary assistants comfort scared patients, reassure worried families, catch the smallest changes, and handle some pretty impressive messes. Yet somehow, they still find ways to make each other laugh through it all.

🍰 Happy National Dessert Day! 🍫

Dessert may be the best part of the day, but some sweets are definitely not meant for sharing with your pup.

Chocolate toxicity is a common emergency in dogs, and the darker the chocolate, the greater the risk. But chocolate isn’t the only danger hiding in the dessert table.

Sugar-free treats, gum, candy, baked goods and even some peanut butters may contain xylitol, sometimes listed as birch sugar. Xylitol can cause a dangerous drop in blood sugar and potentially severe liver injury in dogs, even in relatively small amounts.

So today, enjoy the cookies, brownies and cupcakes... just keep the four-legged taste testers out of the dessert buffet. 🐾

If your pet gets into chocolate, xylitol or another questionable sweet treat, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian, emergency hospital, or poison control right away.

October 10 is World Mental Health Day. 💚

In veterinary medicine, we spend our days caring for animals and the people who love them. What you don’t always see is the emotional weight carried by the people on the other side of the exam room door.

We celebrate the saves, but we also carry the losses. We comfort families on some of their hardest days, make difficult decisions, work long hours, witness trauma, and sometimes wonder if we could have done more.

This profession is filled with some of the most compassionate people you will ever meet. Unfortunately, that same compassion can come at a cost.

Today is a reminder to check on your coworkers. Check on your friends. Check on the person who is always making everyone else laugh. And please remember that asking for help is not weakness.

To our veterinary community, you matter far beyond the patients you care for.
