Phew…this is a long post, but it is for a good reason….Mama Nova and her NINE puppies were called into Animal Control on the 10th of August as strays. This sweet girl was out in the elements working hard to survive while also protecting and nourishing her tiny babies. Luckily, one of our Animal Control Officers was able to get Mama and all nine puppies to the safety of the shelter where they were examined and it was determined they would do much better in a home environment. We sent out a plea for help and a wonderful foster stepped up to take on the challenge. Nova and babies spent over a month being cared for and loved on by our foster who said she was an excellent mother. Once the babies were weened, everyone came back to the shelter. Mama Nova received additional care to help her recover from birthing and feeding nine puppies and was then spayed. All nine puppies were spayed/neutered and adopted within that same week, but over two months after being picked up, Mama Nova is still at the shelter patiently waiting for her happily-ever-after to come in, swoop her up and give her the amazing life she truly deserves. Mama Nova is super sweet, mostly calm, and currently a bit timid. She is a little wary of new people, but warms up pretty quickly (to the point of wanting to be right next to you once she realizes you are a kind and trustworthy human💕 This girl will also take care of bathroom business outdoors as long as she’s given appropriate opportunities. She gets really happy when allowed to run free in the play-yard, toss around a plushy toy, and get her ‘zoomies’ out. Nova has done well around the other shelter dogs, but we always recommend a meet-and-greet with any potential canine siblings. Nova spent a day out with one of her volunteer friends who felt she needed some decompression time. Nova was a bit nervous, but overall rode well in the car, she was unsure of navigating a parking lot and entering a business, but with patience and a little encouragement, accomplished that task. Next she went home with her volunteer, took her time before entering the home, and once inside slowly explored. She did not attempt to navigate stairs, and only laid on the couch after being boosted up - so, she will need some time, patience, and gentle reassurance while she learns to navigate home life with a new family. She did not bother or negatively react to any of the three cats at her volunteers’ home and has not shown any issues with BC, the shelter Boss cat. Nova is treat motivated and really enjoyed her pup-cup treat on her ride back to the shelter. She does not seem to like baths - but she definitely enjoyed feeling and smelling fresh and clean afterward (lots of tail wags once that deed was done) 🤣 We all love Mama Nova and really want to find her the bestest home ever - after all she’s been through, she deserves to live in the lap of luxury. If you’ve got a loving and patient heart, a cozy couch, time for walks and playtime, and room in your home for a new best friend, stop by and meet our sweet Mama Nova 🩷
