To all who have served and continue to serve. Thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our country. 🇺🇸❤️ We are forever grateful for all you have given to protect our freedoms.
Sometimes helping an animal means helping the person on the other end of the leash, too. ❤️🐾
Recently, Pope County Veterans Service reached out to us about a homeless veteran who was working toward getting into housing. There was just one thing standing in the way—his beloved dog, Odin, needed to be neutered before they could move into the housing unit together.
We knew we wanted to help.
We happened to have a board meeting the very next day, so we brought the situation to our board and without hesitation we started making calls Lake Region Small Animal Center worked with us to move one of our shelter dog’s neuter appointments so we could get Odin in as quickly as possible.
While everything was being arranged, Odin stayed with us for a couple of days and let us tell you… this boy completely stole our hearts. ❤️ He is one of the sweetest, calmest, most gentle dogs you could ever meet. You could tell how loved he was, and how important he was to his person.
For someone experiencing homelessness, a dog can be so much more than a pet. They can be family, comfort, companionship, and the one constant when everything else feels uncertain.
We also wanted to help them get settled in any way we could. Odin went home with a donated blanket from the vet, along with some other goodies we had here at the shelter to help make their new beginning a little more comfortable. Sometimes it’s the little things that can mean the most. ❤️
We are incredibly grateful that Pope County Veterans Service reached out, that our board was willing to step in, and that Lake Region Small Animal Center helped us make it happen.
This is what community is all about organizations working together, helping where we can, and making sure a veteran and his best friend have the chance to move forward together. 🇺🇸🐾❤️
Odin, it was an absolute pleasure having you with us. We hope you and your dad enjoy this next chapter and most importantly, a place to finally call home. ❤️
If you want to donate so we can keep helping! We appreciate our supporters so much!
