💔🐾 The goodbye we never wanted to make… Our sweet Snoopy. 🐾💔
It is with absolutely shattered hearts that we share that on Tuesday, we made the heartbreaking decision to lay our sweet Snoopy to rest.
For those who have followed his journey, you know just how hard this boy fought. From the heartbreaking condition he came to us in, to watching his hair grow back and celebrating every little improvement, we truly believed Snoopy was going to get his happy ending.
Unfortunately, Snoopy was fighting more than we knew.
Snoopy suffered from generalized demodex mange, a severe skin condition in adult dogs that is often linked to a suppressed immune system. Along with this, he was battling serious bacterial and yeast infections. Despite medications, treatments, baths, and countless efforts, his body just wasn’t healing like we had hoped.
Over the last four weeks, Snoopy began taking steps backward. His skin lesions worsened, he started bleeding during bowel movements, and we noticed blood coming from his prepuce.
On Tuesday, Dr. Kendra found cells on an aspirate that were consistent with lymphoma, a type of cancer. This discovery helped explain why Snoopy’s immune system was struggling and why, despite everything we were doing, his body just couldn’t seem to heal.
We wanted so badly to save Snoopy, but we couldn’t keep asking his tired body to fight.
This decision to say goodbye was absolutely devastating for our staff here and at Lake Region Small Animal Clinic his amazing foster family, and everyone who loved him.
To everyone who donated, followed his journey, prayed for him, or cheered on his progress, THANK YOU. You helped give Snoopy something he deserved all along: love, comfort, kindness, and a family.
Please know we never gave up on Snoopy. Sometimes loving them means making the hardest decision of all.
🌈 Rest easy, sweet Snoopy. No more treatments, no more pain, and no more fighting.
We would have given anything for a different ending. You were worth every bit of the fight, and we would do it all over again, even knowing how your story ends. 💔🐾
