An orphaned baby walrus was found all alone on a remote Alaskan island — and his rescuers ended up spending three days stranded with him during a storm! 🥹💙
Researchers discovered the young calf lying between two dead adult walruses, with scavenging gulls approaching and two polar bears active nearby.
After receiving permission to intervene, they guided the baby into an abandoned building to keep him safe while waiting for the weather to clear.
During their three days together, the little walrus grew so attached to his rescuers that he wouldn't fall asleep unless one of them was in the room.
Once the storm passed, the team transported the 200-pound calf more than 800 miles to the Alaska SeaLife Center, where he received fluids, treatment for minor wounds and round-the-clock care.
Because orphaned walrus calves depend heavily on close contact with their mothers, caregivers took shifts staying with him day and night.
The calf has since moved to a permanent home where he'll continue receiving human care, as he's unable to return to the wild.
