We are currently at capacity for cats and kittens!

If you find a stray animal, please call the shelter before bringing them in so we can let you know if we have space available and discuss available options.
Kitten season is not for the weak. Every week we are taking in multiple litters, coordinating rescue placements, searching for adopters, and providing medical care when needed. There is a tremendous amount happening behind the scenes that most people never see.
As a small shelter, our resources are limited. Unfortunately, rescues are full. We are full. Many surrounding communities, including much of Butler County, are facing the same challenges with cats and kittens.
Please be patient with us. It is never that we don't want to help. We care deeply about every kitten, every cat, and every person who reaches out to us. The reality is that we cannot solve this crisis alone.
What we need most right now are adopters and responsible pet owners who spay and neuter their pets. Every adoption creates space for another animal in need.

Not a post we usually make, but we need your help!

We are actively seeking volunteers willing to transport animals to rescue partners. Right now, we have an amazing opportunity to send 4 puppies and 1 adult dog to a rescue in Lawrence tomorrow, but we need someone to help get them there.

A few hours of your time could literally save 5 lives and open up much-needed space here at the shelter to help more animals in need.

Sparkles (named by a 4 year old, and honestly, it fits 😄) has a message for all of you:

Since her sister was adopted and she wasn't, Sparkles has been feeling a little lonely. She is craving a family of her own and someone to shower with all the love bites she has to give.

Her adoption fee is just $115 and includes her spay surgery and a rabies vaccine when she is old enough.

Update: ADOPTED!!
Meet Dolly.

Dolly is an 8 month old Ragdoll mix and quite possibly every cat owner’s dream. Soft, beautiful, sweet, and just dramatic enough to keep life interesting.

Now listen… she may look like she is judging your life choices in her shelter photos.. The RBF is strong with this one. But don’t let the face fool you. Dolly is TRUE to her name and is an absolute doll once you meet her.

She is kid friendly, cat friendly, and ready to settle right into a home. We aren’t sure how she feels about dogs yet since she hasn’t lived with one, but honestly Dolly seems pretty confident and we believe she could come around to anything life throws at her.

She is ready to become the favorite member of your household immediately. Your other pets?.. Your spouse?.. Your children?... Sorry. Dolly said she’s taking the top spot. (and rightfully so, look at that cute face)

We wanted to explain why it may feel like you have been sitting on our trap list forever. First, thank you for your patience and support while we work through the overwhelming need in our community.

In April 2025, we were only able to intake 21 cats. With our previous process, cats had to complete a 3-business day stray hold and then remain in the shelter for adoption availability, which could take around 10 more days. That meant our space filled up quickly and slowed how many cats we could help each month.

April 2026, we were able to intake 42 cats in ONE month through our Shelter, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release program. That means we can complete the required stray hold, have the cats spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and safely return them to their area much faster. Because of this program, we have DOUBLED the number of cats we can help in a month.

Please do not feel like nothing is happening behind the scenes. We are PUSHING as hard as we can to get to every area and every colony reported to us. On top of these intake numbers, we are also caring for kittens, owner surrenders, adoptions, emergencies, and daily shelter operations plus the 100 dogs we have taken in so far this year.. With a shelter staff of 1 and 1 Animal Control Officer.

We know the wait can feel frustrating. We promise we are trying. We just need a little patience while we work through the list, pray the right cat goes into the trap, the rain gives us a break, and we all stay healthy enough to keep moving forward.

We’ve got you, El Dorado. Don’t give up on us yet. 🖤

FINAL UPDATE! Both of these babies have been adopted!!

UPDATE: Flower has been adopted! Badger is still searching for his forever!

WARNING: Your lap may never be empty again.

Meet Badger (brown) and Flower (white), two tiny Shih Tzus with huge personalities and approximately 7 pounds each of pure emotional support gremlin energy. Both are estimated to be around 2 to 4 years old and are EXTREMELY affectionate. If your life has been missing tiny feet following you to the bathroom, congratulations, your solution has arrived.

Badger is exactly what his name suggests. Tiny. Determined. Slightly dramatic. He absolutely believes he is management and will happily supervise every dog in the home. He is not aggressive at all, he just strongly prefers everyone acknowledge him as CEO. He may pester other dogs because clearly they are not following protocol.

Flower is the complete opposite vibe. Sweet, tolerant, gentle, and basically a walking serotonin boost. She’s the kind of dog that makes bad days better just by existing.

The good news? They do NOT have to go to the same home. So whether you’re looking for:
• A tiny bossy roommate with opinions
OR
• A cuddly little ray of sunshine

…we have you covered.

Honestly, these two are a goldmine for anyone wanting a little 7 pound baby to spoil rotten. Tiny dogs. Tiny paws. Tiny barks. Massive attachment issues incoming.

Adoptions get crazy for little dogs so remember protocol: Apply online at www.eldoks.gov/animal_shelter Click on their picture and fill out the application. Then come in and meet them as soon as possible, if the application is approved then it is first come first serve. We do reserve the right to deny an application if we don't feel like it is a good fit.

UPDATE! Adopted!!!

Ever wanted to know what it feels like to live inside a snow globe that occasionally steals your socks and body slams you with love? Meet our goofy white German Shepherd. About 1 year old, male neutered, EXTREMELY friendly, wildly entertaining, and currently majoring in Chaos with a minor in Personal Space Violations.

This boy loves everyone. Humans, probably ghosts, MAYBE even the mailman. He’s the kind of dog that will greet you like you just returned from war after taking the trash out.

He is still working on his manners and needs a family willing to continue his “how to be a civilized gentleman” training, but he’s smart and eager to please. He just occasionally forgets he has the energy of a caffeinated toddler.

Ideal home:
• Has a good vacuum and a good sense of humor

If you’ve been looking for a loyal adventure buddy wrapped in a giant fluffy marshmallow, he’s ready to meet you.

UPDATE! We still have TWO puppies that need good homes! Someone needs a summer buddy!

Pack your bags because we are taking a trip around the US with Montana, Utah, and Arizona!
(Also pictured is our light brindle brother, Max, but he was adopted this morning! 🎉)

We are 7 to 8 week old male Pit mixes and we are FULL of puppy love, puppy kisses, puppy zoomies, and puppy chaos. Basically everything you could ever want wrapped up in tiny wiggly bodies.

We were surrendered to the shelter out of love. Our family wanted to make sure we had the chance to be properly cared for and find amazing homes of our own. Now we are hoping that home is with YOU. ❤️

Our personalities are all different, so come meet us and see who fits perfectly into your family. One of us just might be the missing piece you did not know you needed.
