❗️WE’RE HIRING❗️
Do you love animals?
Great.
Can you stay calm when things get messy, chaotic, heartbreaking, hilarious, rewarding, frustrating, and inspiring—all before lunch?
Even better.
Edmond Animal Services is looking for two Animal Shelter Specialists to join our team. This isn’t a job where you’ll spend all day cuddling puppies (although that does happen occasionally). This is hands-on animal welfare work in a fast-paced municipal shelter environment.
Our Shelter Specialists do it all:
🐶 Animal care and handling
🐱 Feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and daily welfare
💉 Assisting with medical treatments and veterinary procedures
📋 Behavior and health evaluations
🏠 Adoption counseling
☎️ Public assistance, dispatching calls, and customer service
📊 Documentation and data entry
🚨 Emergency response and problem-solving
❤️ Helping lost pets find their families
🌈 Making humane decisions when necessary
We’re looking for someone who:
✔️ Has animal care experience (shelter, veterinary, daycare, boarding, wildlife, etc.)
✔️ Is compassionate without falling apart when situations are difficult
✔️ Can be empathetic, realistic, and confident
✔️ Isn’t squeamish around medical procedures, bodily fluids, or the less glamorous parts of animal care
✔️ Communicates well and works as part of a team
✔️ Is eager to learn and absorbs new information like a sponge
✔️ Can advocate for animals while maintaining professionalism with the public
✔️ Understands that animal welfare isn’t always easy, but it’s always important
✔️ Has availability to work weekends, holidays, and varied schedules as needed
Sheltering is gritty. It’s physically demanding. Some days are incredibly rewarding. Some days are heartbreaking. But every day matters.
We’re looking for people who aren’t just seeking a job—we’re looking for people who can see themselves building a career in animal welfare and public service.
As a municipal animal shelter, we operate as part of the Special Services Division of the Edmond Police Department. Because of the background screening and hiring process required for City employment, the timeline from application to onboarding can take up to 90 days. We know that’s longer than many organizations, but we believe finding the right people is worth the wait.
If you’re looking for meaningful work, a supportive team, opportunities to learn and grow, and a chance to make a real difference for animals and people in our community, we’d love to hear from you 🤩
