Please help us congratulate these smart ladies (Dr J’s little munchkins) as they begin their next chapter at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine! Elise Barnett (Class of 2030) worked for us during her senior year of high school. Rachel Kelley (Class of 2030) has been our lead technician for the last 5 years. Bella Ramirez (Class of 2030) completed an internship with us in July of 2025 and Liliana Wilson (Class of 2029) completed and internship with us in May of 2025. We are so proud of these future veterinarians and so glad to have been part of their journey!! Go Pokes! 🧡🩺

🚨After-hours emergencies are stressful for you and important to us 🚨

We utilize an answering service, but sometimes things don’t work exactly as planned.

IF you have an emergency and you try to call us after-hours but you get a recorded message saying there is a high call volume - don’t give up! Keep calling until you actually get to speak to a real person. We unfortunately don’t have any control over this, but please keep calling 🤳!!!

Additionally, if the person at the answering service asks to put you on hold…say “NO‼️” ✋🏼 Tell them about your emergency and ask that they contact the vet right away.

Your horses are very important to us - and we apologize for any frustration that you may experience when dealing with our answering service.

Apparently the clinic phone lines have decided they’d like to start the long weekend early and will be down until at least 1pm.

If you need us for an emergency or horse urgency, call anyway and the answering service will reach us.

For routine or administrative calls, please try after 1pm.

Remember that fireworks 🎆🎇 may frighten horses (and your other animals) so, make arrangements to keep them safe during the festivities.

In honor of Memorial Day and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our great country, the clinic will be closed on Monday, May 25. We will be available for emergencies, but we sincerely hope everyone has a safe day of observation.

Every summer, we get calls from owners reporting sometimes very alarming looking wounds on lower legs - most of the time, it’s a donkey, but sometimes it’s a horse. These “wounds” are actually “fly-strikes” and are exactly what they sound like. Thousands of fly bites cause crusty, bleeding and oozing sores leaving our poor equine friends feeling pretty miserable.

Fly boots - or leggings - are a good way to help minimize risk and prevent the discomfort, along with routine applications of fly-repellent sprays and ointments. While we don’t recommend a particular brand, there are plenty to choose from and range in sizes for all types of equines.
