🐴🩵From Trail Horse to Forever Home: Indy’s Story
Some horses leave hoofprints on a trail. Others leave them on your heart.
Indy, a Navajo Pony with a remarkable journey, has officially become the very first horse adopted through our Trail to a Forever Home Adoption Program.
Before finding his way to us, Indy lived wild on the reservation with a close companion. When tragedy struck and his friend was hit by a car, Indy refused to leave his side. That loyalty eventually led to his capture and the beginning of a new chapter.
Through the dedication of many people who believed in him, Indy was gentled, trained, and discovered a talent for just about everything. He could move cattle, walk proudly in parades, and even won the Trainers Challenge at The Horse Shelter. After being adopted and later returned through no fault of his own, Indy found his way to our ranch in 2021.
Over the last five years, Indy has become one of our trusted trail partners, carrying guests across New Mexico’s breathtaking landscapes and helping countless riders create memories they’ll never forget.
Then, this April, something special happened.
Paula joined us for our Pow Wow Ride and spent four unforgettable days riding Indy. A connection formed that couldn’t be ignored. What started as a riding vacation became the beginning of a forever partnership.
Today, Indy is settling into his new life in South Carolina with Paula, where he’ll be loved, cherished, and enjoyed for years to come.
Stories like Indy’s remind us that rescue is never just about saving a horse. It’s about giving them the opportunity to write the next chapter of their story.
Congratulations, Paula and Indy. We couldn’t be happier for you both. 🩵
