Meet Handsome. And yes, someone really did name him Handsome. Fortunately, he can back it up. 😂

Handsome is a 9-month-old Great Pyrenees mix weighing in at about 70 pounds. Translation: he is still very much a puppy; he just happens to be a puppy the size of some grown men’s luggage.

Handsome was surrendered because his owner didn’t have enough time for him. This is very important; puppies need time. They need training, consistency, exercise, patience, and someone willing to teach them how to become great adult dogs. Handsome is no exception.

The good news? This sweet boy already has a pretty impressive résumé. He knows basic commands, loves playing ball, and does well with dogs, cats, and kids. He can be a little shy when first meeting someone, but once he feels comfortable, that big goofy smile shows up.

Handsome needs a family who understands that adopting a puppy means actually raising one. Revolutionary concept, apparently, but here we are. In return, you get a gorgeous, social, silly young dog who has his whole life ahead of him.

Arthur is about 12 years old. He came into a shelter as a stray. No one came back for him.

There’s more to his story, the details aren’t the point. The point is that Arthur is one of far too many senior dogs who find themselves in shelters at the exact stage of life when they should be safest.

They’ve spent 10, 12, sometimes 15 years belonging to someone. Sleeping in a familiar place. Knowing a routine. Knowing where dinner comes from and which person is theirs.

Suddenly, they’re in a kennel.
We talk a lot about puppies in shelters. We talk about overcrowding and euthanasia and adoption numbers. We don’t talk nearly enough about old dogs.

Senior dogs are harder to place. They may need medication. They may move slower. They may have cloudy eyes, worn teeth, arthritis or simply fewer years ahead of them.

Many of them will enter a shelter and Many of them will enter a shelter and never leave. That should bother us.
Because getting old should not make an animal disposable. Arthur didn’t suddenly become less worthy when his muzzle turned gray. He didn’t stop deserving comfort, safety or belonging because he reached the last chapter instead of the first.
Senior dogs deserve better than spending the end of their lives waiting in shelters for someone to decide they still matter.

They already matter. Arthur matters.

Our Silver Paws Program and Hospice Foster Program are meant to help dogs like Arthur have a soft landing.

💘 DIESEL’S DATING PROFILE 💘

Name: Diesel
Age: Old enough to know better, young enough to absolutely ignore that
Weight: 83 pounds of handsome
Relationship status: Single. STILL. Since April.
Looking for: A long-term commitment, preferably involving a couch, snacks, adventures, and someone who appreciates a large man with no concept of personal space.

ABOUT ME:

I’m Diesel. I came to the shelter as a stray back in April; nobody came looking for me, and somehow I am still here.

Which is honestly getting a little embarrassing for the rest of you.

I’m sweet, goofy, playful, and approximately the size of a small loveseat. I love people, kids, other dogs, water, toys, and generally being included in whatever you are doing.

MY INTERESTS:

💦 Swimming and anything involving water
🎾 Playing until someone gets tired. Probably you.
🐶 Hanging out with dog friends
🚙 Riding shotgun and supervising
❤️ Being told I am handsome
🛋️ Attempting to become an 83-pound lap dog

GREEN FLAGS:

✅ Good with dogs
✅ Good with kids
✅ Housetrained
✅ Fun, affectionate, and social
✅ Excellent adventure buddy
✅ Very kissable face
✅ Will never leave you wondering how he feels about you

POSSIBLE RED FLAGS:

🚩 Large
🚩 Goofy
🚩 May occupy substantially more couch than originally negotiated
🚩 Thinks boundaries are more of a suggestion

Diesel has been waiting since April for someone to finally realize that the big goofy dog everyone enjoys visiting should actually get to go home.

Come meet Diesel. Your dating history has probably included worse decisions.

Diesel’s adoption includes:

🐾 Vaccinations, microchip, and neuter
🐾 One FREE private training session with TM Canine Services
🐾 Unlimited group training classes with TM Canine Services
🐾 FREE intro run with Run-N-Paw
🐾 Starter bag of food + goodies from Hill’s Pet Nutrition
