WE NEED FOSTERS!

Fostering doesn’t have to mean committing forever. It can be a few days, a couple of weeks, or however long you’re able to help. Even a short-term foster can make a HUGE difference.

When you foster, you’re giving a dog:
🐾 A safe place to decompress
❤️ Love and attention
🏡 A break from the stress of the kennel
🐶 A better chance at finding their forever family

We provide the food and supplies you need. You provide the couch, the love, and a little bit of your time. ❤️

We especially need fosters NOW because we simply don’t have enough kennel space.

Set the scene…
Everyone has gone home for the night.
The doors are locked. The phones have stopped ringing. The footsteps are gone.
But you’re still here.
Today was loud. So loud. Dogs barking. Doors opening and closing. People coming and going.
And now it’s finally quiet.
You look at your leather bed… but it’s cold.
So you slowly make your way to the stoop.
Maybe the concrete will hold a little warmth.
Maybe here you can finally breathe.
Your back hurts.
You’re going through fast-kill heartworm treatment, and some days it really hurts. You don’t understand why your body feels this way. You just know you’re tired.
And if you could choose where you’d rather recover, it wouldn’t be here.
It would be a home.
A soft bed.
A quiet room.
A person sitting beside you.
Someone rubbing your head and telling you, “You’re okay. I’ve got you.”
But nobody has chosen you yet.
Maybe they see the word HEARTWORM and keep scrolling.

Maybe they don’t know that heartworm is treatable.

Maybe they don’t know that you’re worth the extra time.

Maybe they don’t know that underneath that diagnosis is a dog who just wants to be loved.
Thankfully, the shelter and Friends of Edgefield Animal Shelter didn’t give up on you. They made sure you could get the treatment you needed.
They gave you a chance.

And you’re grateful.

You really are.

But tonight, that chance still looks like sitting alone on a shelter stoop after everyone has gone home.

Waiting.

Waiting for someone to look at you and see more than heartworm.

Waiting for a home that may not even know you’re waiting for them.

So tonight, you sit here.

Quiet.

Tired.

And hoping.

Because maybe tomorrow…

Someone will walk through that door.

And maybe, just maybe…

they’ll be looking for you.

Until then, I’ll keep fighting.

Every year, shelters become overwhelmed with lost pets after the Fourth of July fireworks. Even pets that have never been afraid before can panic and run away.

🐶 Keep pets indoors during fireworks.
🔒Make sure gates, fences, and doors are secure.
📞 If your dog wears a collar, write your phone number directly on it with a permanent marker.
