🚨 We Need Your Help 🚨

We don't like making posts like this, but right now we have no choice.

Tri-County Animal Shelter is full.

Every kennel is filled with a dog hoping for a family. Our cat rooms are overflowing with sweet cats and kittens waiting for someone to notice them. Every day, calls come in about animals that need help, and we are running out of space to give them the care they deserve.

The truth is, we can't do this alone.

We desperately need adopters and fosters.

When you adopt, you don't just save one life—you create space for another animal that has nowhere else to go.

When you foster, you give an animal a safe place to rest, decompress, and receive love while they wait for their forever family.

These animals are not numbers to us. We know their personalities, their favorite treats, their silly habits, and the way their faces light up when someone stops at their kennel. They deserve more than waiting day after day for someone to give them a chance.

So, we’re making our Barn Cat / Working Cat program official.

Because not every cat can be a house cat, but every cat still deserves a chance.

These cats will be spayed or neutered, rabies vaccinated, microchipped, ear tipped, and their adoption fee is fully covered. We will post to Facebook when they are available. If you would like to be on a call list instead of waiting on a social media post please send us a message with contact information.

This will not be “pick your favorite” program. Barn cats will not be selected by gender, coat color, or personality preference. These are working placements for cats that need an alternative to traditional adoption.

They also cannot be picked up and immediately released. Working cats must be safely confined ( for example a tack room)at their new location for a minimum of 3 to 6 weeks so they can adjust, establish the location as home, and have the best chance of staying where they belong.

And because we know the comments will come, let’s address it now: euthanasia is not population control.

Killing feral cats does not stop feral cat populations. It creates space for new unsterilized cats to move in, breed, and restart the cycle all over again.

Our TNVR program is already 43 cats in and counting because prevention works.

Not every solution is neat. Not every cat is cuddly. Not every outcome looks like a happy family photo on a couch.

Saving lives does not have to look pretty to still be the right thing to do.

Just because we might call it “not that hot” doesn’t mean your dog or cat agrees. 🌞

This week’s temperatures can still be dangerous for pets left outside all day, especially with humidity, limited shade, or water bowls that heat up fast. Hot surfaces can burn paws, and pets can overheat much quicker than we do.

If your pet is outside, please make sure they have fresh cool water, real shade (not just a doghouse), and a way to get out of the heat. Better yet, bring them inside.

If it feels warm to you, it feels a whole lot hotter in a fur coat.
