The snow is melting, sun is shining, we are all itching to get out and explore…but curious noses can lead to trouble this time of year!

Porcupine quills are barbed, which means they:
⚠️ Embed deeply
⚠️ Can migrate under the skin
⚠️ Cause infection and abscesses
⚠️ May require sedation for safe removal

If your dog has an encounter:
🚫 Do NOT cut the quills
🚫 Do NOT pull them out at home
🚫 Do NOT wait to see if they “shake it off”

✅ Keep your pet calm
✅ Prevent pawing at the face
✅ Call us immediately

The sooner we treat, the better the outcome!
