All too often, when the interests of man and animal are in conflict, man prevails. Animal welfare is a social matter, of which, people need learn to be passionate. The Eau Claire County Humane Association is dedicated to educating the public about the need for humane treatment of all animals and responsible pet ownership. We must rely on donations from our friends and supporters who share our belief that every animal deserves the opportunity to be adopted into a loving home. Because it is difficult to run a shelter based solely on donations, our success depends on you. You CAN make a difference. Your generous support of the Humane Association will help us to feed and care for our local pets until they are adopted into a loving home.

We recieved a lovely update from an adopter about Aggy, now Winnie!

"Winnie (white dog) has been exactly what our family needed. She is so gentle and wonderful with the kids. My daughter with autism has really taken to her fluffy guardian who pushes her around the house with her nose to direct her and stop her from doing things she shouldn't."

"Winnie spends her days lounging on the couch on top of a mountain of pillows when her humans are at school and work. She loves playing with her best friend, Taluluah a Great Dane Mastiff mix and she loves grooming and being groomed and snuggled by her boyfriend, Jiji, a black cat."

October is Adopt a Dog Month! Check out some of these ECCHA alumni who are entered into our 2nd Annual B**r Label Contest + Release Party!

It's Foster Friday! Please meet handsome boy, Oscar!

There is so much to love about this big guy! Oscar is in a foster home because he is stressed here at the shelter, and it has really made him blossom into an amaing cat. Oscar loves to snuggle, especially at night! Foster mom says, "He loves to be around people and is curious about all our activities. He is very playful: he finds every opportunity to chase toys. He's a lap cat, seeks out attention and really wants to be part of the family."

While he would be a great family cat, we do think Oscar would do best with older children (over 13) as he can get overwhelmed with a lot of noise and movement. He may be a candidate for feline and canine siblings as long as they are not too rambunctious and you practiced a slow introduction - he did well with the female cat but was afraid of the large dog in his previous home. He may do okay with an older, smaller dog. Oscar is very good at giving signs when he is feeling overwhelmed, so someone who can read and respect his boundaries is a must!

Let's do another ! Meet Sheep and learn why caretaker Rachel loves her so much.

"Sheep is a spunky, silly, fun-loving girl who LOVES her people. Once she has the opportunity to decompress, she will happily melt into you for cuddles! She loves long walks, car rides, runs, hikes, and of course...pup cups!"

"Sheep isn't looking for someone who wants the "perfect dog"-- she is looking for someone who is ready to put in the time, patience, and love she desperately needs. Someone who can meet her where she's at, and help her become the dog we know she can be!"

One by one, Sheep's puppies all found loving homes while Sheep has remained at the shelter. The stress, frustration, and lack of stimulation that she needs have taken a toll on her. In true heeler fashion (which we believe is the majority of her breed mix) she has become nippy when frustrated and overwhelmed. Because of this, we are seeking a unique home for her.

Sheep is looking for a home with adults only or older children (13 and up) who can understand when she needs space, without cats. Sheep would love structure and routine, and would love to have a job - even if it's just picking up sticks in the yard!
