🐾 WORLD RABIES DAY — SEPTEMBER 28 🐾

Protect Your Pet. Protect Your Family. Protect Your Community.

Today is World Rabies Day, a reminder of just how important rabies prevention is for both our pets and our families. Rabies is a serious, contagious viral disease that affects the nervous system and is almost always fatal once clinical signs appear. The good news? Rabies is preventable through vaccination.

🦠 Why is rabies vaccination so important?

Even pets who spend most of their time indoors can potentially be exposed to rabies. Wildlife such as bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes can carry the virus, and an unexpected encounter can put an unvaccinated pet—and the people around them—at risk.

Keeping your pet's rabies vaccination current is one of the simplest and most important things you can do to help protect them and your family. Vaccination programs are a major reason rabies is well controlled in the United States.

🐶🐱 Remember:
✔️ Keep your pet's rabies vaccine up to date
✔️ Don't allow pets to interact with wildlife
✔️ Never approach sick, injured, or unusually behaving wildlife
✔️ Contact animal control if you encounter a potentially rabid animal
✔️ If you or your pet is bitten or scratched by an unfamiliar or potentially rabid animal, seek appropriate medical or veterinary guidance promptly.

A rabies vaccine is more than just another vaccine—it is protection for your pet, your family, and your community. ❤️🐾

📞 Not sure if your pet's rabies vaccination is current? Give Ocmulgee Veterinary Clinic a call and let us help you make sure your furry family member is protected!
